One of my first stops on my Wild Atlantic Way Ireland tour was Mizen Head, which is traditionally known as the most southerly point of Ireland.

Fun Fact: The cliffs and rocks around Mizen Head are dangerous: in the 19th century, they had seen the deaths of many sailors, and the sinking of many ships – particularly problematic as the transatlantic shipping routes ran close by. In 1906, the Irish Lights Board sanctioned the opening of the Mizen Head Fog Signal Station in order to make the area safer by warning ships off the rocks. The station was automated in 1933, but three keepers remained living there on rotation until 1993.

Caught this cormorant relaxing on its favourite rock over the weekend whilst visiting Llyn Gwynant in Wales.

Fun Fact: All versions of the cormorant have glands that secrete oil used for keeping their feathers waterproof. However, this gland is not sufficient on its own, so cormorants are often seen spreading their wings to dry them.

I caught these two young Deers having a playful rut in the snow whilst in the the Cairngorms National Park after Christmas.

Fun Fact: Wild red and roe deer are naturally woodland species and they have been in Scotland for around 10,000 years since the land was colonised by forests following the last glaciation.

Here we have Venus dominating the Sky and sitting nicely under The Pleiades, also known as The Seven Sisters. I love the way the light from Venus illuminates the sea beyond the cliffs.

Fun Fact: The Pleiades open star cluster is located at around 444 light-years / 136 parsecs away from the Sun. It is so large and bright that it can be seen from Earth with the naked eye.

The Pleiades cluster has around 800 solar masses or about 80.000% of the Sun’s mass. The radius of the Pleiades stretches for about 17.5 light-years. Its overall dimensions are around 110 arcminutes. The cluster core radius is about 8 light-years, and the tidal radius is around 43 light-years.

What’s your favourite waterfall? Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall was on top form over the weekend 🙌🏻 Highly recommend visiting here if you get the chance.

Fun Fact: Pistyll Rhaeadr is formed by the Afon Disgynfa falling, in three stages, over a 240-foot (73 m) Silurian cliff-face, below which the river is known as the Afon Rhaeadr. The tallest stage is estimated at about 40 metres. It is counted as one of the Seven Wonders of Wales and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Just a “Beautiful Demoiselle” (Damselfly) looking at me wondering what I’m doing 😂 The colours on these are amazing and it won’t be too long until you’ll be seeing these across the country.

Had a great walk up to Capel Garmon Burial Ground in the dark when I was camping out at Betws Y Coed and it looked spectacular under the moonlight. This is one of the oldest ruins I’ve ever visited and is definitely worth a visit.

Fun Fact: The Capel Garmon Burial Chamber, near Betws-y-Coed, was erected in the Neolithic Age 2,500-1,900 B.C.for the communal burial of the dead. The monument is a tomb of the Cotswold-Severn type, unusual in North Wales and similar in design to the long cairns of south-east Wales.

Whilst in the the Isle of Harris I spent some time at Huisinis Beach and it’s not hard to see why. Even the moody clouds made it that little bit more beautiful and when I go back here I’ll definitely make sure I’ve got my paddle board with me as the water is so clear 😍
