The Night and Day Festival were delighted with Emerald Star Le Boat sponsorship this year of their unique boutique festival—and the only one where attendees can arrive directly by boat.
Taking place in the stunning surroundings of Lough Key Forest and Activity Park, this year’s festival elevates the attendee experience by bringing live music directly onto the water. Thanks to the sponsorship of Emerald Star Le Boat, the festival played host to "The Lough Key Sessions," a series of intimate acoustic performances showcasing the absolute finest regional talent.
Tradition Meets the Water
Curated by the Carolan Collective—a community music initiative celebrating local heritage—and acclaimed local musician and coordinator David Knight and Mossie Martin, the sessions will bring traditional and contemporary sounds together in a setting like no other. Musicians will perform intimately on the water, honoring the rich musical history of Roscommon while giving festival-goers an unforgettable, close-up experience.
"Lough Key is steeped in history, from the ancient Kings of Moylurg to the harper Turlough O'Carolan himself," and of course Yeats vision of the Castle of Heroes The "Castle of Heroes" refers to an unrealized, highly mystical secret society and spiritual center that the Irish poet W.B. Yeats envisioned establishing in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. "Partnering with Emerald Star Le Boat allows us to literally float our musical heritage right to the festival audience. It’s a magic combination of local talent and an incredible natural venue."
The Only Festival with a Dedicated Marina
What truly sets Night and Day apart from any other event on the Irish festival calendar is its accessibility by water.
Emerald Star Le Boat, Europe’s leading provider of inland waterway boating holidays, will have a major presence at the festival, supporting both the musicians and providing a visual centerpoint on the water. https://www.emeraldstar.ie/boating-holidays/ireland/shannon See less

A Magical Wrap at Lough Key: Night and Day Festival 2026 Concludes in Lough Key Forest & Activity Park with Epic Performance by Bob Geldof and Inspiring Showcases of Roscommon’s Local Creative Talent
BOYLE, CO. ROSCOMMON — The banks of Lough Key fell quiet today as the gates closed on the most successful Night and Day Festival to date. Gathering over 10,000 festival-goers across three days (May 29–31, 2026), the completely independent, artist-driven festival transformed the historic 19th-century parklands of Lough Key Forest Park into a vibrant hub of music, art, and brilliant community connection.
Rocketing to the Stars: Bob Geldof & The Boomtown Rats Deliver a Historic Finale
Closing out the weekend on Sunday night, legendary rock icon Bob Geldof and his band, The Boomtown Rats, delivered an unforgettable, high-octane headlining performance that shook the North Roscommon woodland. Playing to a packed, high-energy crowd of up to 5,000 fans on the main lawn, Geldof took the audience on a journey through the band’s historic catalogue, proving exactly why they remain enduring stars of the Irish rock movement.
Speaking right after coming off stage, Geldof praised the Roscommon crowd, calling them "fantastic" and expressing a deep desire to play the venue again. He fondly recalled his own childhood memories of visiting Lough Key Forest Park and joked about his younger days in the music scene: "Back in the day, we tried to get a gig in nearby Carrick-on-Shannon, but we were told to f off! It’s brilliant to come back all these years later to this magical setting."*
Celebrating Roscommon's Roots: Creative Ireland, Carolan Collective, and Local Artists
While international stars illuminated the main stage, the true heartbeat of the 2026 festival was its profound celebration of local cultural heritage and youth engagement, driven by major community partnerships.
Backed by Creative Roscommon
• The Carolan Collective on Tour: Honoring the legendary local legacy of harper Turlough O’Carolan, the Collective delivered an interactive weekend of traditional music. Showcasing Turlough OCarolans Harp music and other local composers created fresh interest in regional traditional music across all generations.
• Roscommon Installations & Craft: Local artists and creators brought the forest to life with striking visual art installations, heritage rope-making crafts, art-kite workshops, and circus skill zones constructed from locally sourced materials.
• Youth & Inclusive Stages: The festival proudly spotlighted rising regional stars through Music Generation showcases and collaborated closely with Our Voice FM to ensure the entire festival site remained accessible, community-centered, and deeply inclusive.
• The Carolan Collective ran by Mossie Martin and David Knight ran the Una Bhan stage in conjuction with Creative Roscommon which featured local musicians aand poets . The Carrick based BR Bistro art Gallery featured local artists Malachy Costello and Bashkin Berisha.
Lough Key Boat Tours and Boat Hire featured boat music tours all weekend and had 3 different music trips each evening with local musicians they also did tours with local DJs on board these proved very popular with the crowds ,thanks to Catherine and her crew, family and a special thanks to Colm Walsh for saving the day regarding communications.
From the stellar opening chords of Irish legends like The Saw Doctors and Hothouse Flowers to the final echoing cheers for Bob Geldof—intertwined with the timeless traditional melodies of the Carolan Collective—Night and Day 2026 solidified its position as a masterclass in how a major music festival can gracefully balance world-class .
