Ronan McLaughlin Photography Rónán McLaughlin is a keen birder, photographer, wildlife enthusiast. This page is dedicated to th Originally from Malin Head, Co.

Donegal, but now based in Cobh, Co. Cork, Rónán first became interested in birds at the age of 12. It is here that his love of birding and our natural environs began. For his birthday that year his parents bought a pair of Tasco 10 x 50 binoculars and the rest as they say, is history! His photographs have been seen internationally as well as featured in Birdwatch magazine, Wings and Birding World

Magazines to mention a few. I try not to restrict it just to images of rare or scarce birds but I hope to showcase the best of Irelands Landscapes and Heritage.

'LEO'

In nearly 30 years of birding, I think I may have seen a Long eared Owl less than a handful of times sitting on a fence post. So it was absolutely fantastic when one landed close by recently whilst the camera was in hand. Remarkable birds and as always feel free to like and share with family and friends.

A Lesser black backed gull battles its way through

A remarkable snow event has occurred along the East and South Coast of Ireland. Instead of measuring snow depth in centimetres, its now been measured in feet. This one will live long in the memory in Co. Cork in particular. Taken this afternoon just outside Shanagarry in East Cork.

Whitby Abbey was a 7th-century Christian monastery that later became a Benedictine abbey. The ruins are situated overlooking the North Sea on the East Cliff above Whitby in North Yorkshire, England.

These are the ruins that inspired Bram Stoker's 'Dracula', thankfully he appeared to be absent during this full moon.

Great spotted woodpecker.

About blackbird-sized and striking black-and-white. It has a very distinctive bouncing flight and spends most of its time clinging to tree trunks and branches, often trying to hide on the side away from the observer. Its presence is often announced by its loud call or by its distinctive spring 'drumming' display. The male has a distinctive red patch on the back of the head and young birds have a red crown.

Unmistakable birds, a pleasure to see and photograph.

The Dipper and the Fireball.

On a rare recent clear night I was lucky to capture this meteor as it blazed across the night sky at Malin Well, Malin Head, heading out to sea over Inishtrahull island.

Please feel free to share with family and friends and a very happy new year to you all.

'More than a film location'

Good conditions for astrophotography have been in short supply this year, however on the rare occasion the sky has sparkled. Just like it did last week at Malin Head in Co. Donegal.
