Went went out for a peaceful walk. Peaceful is probably not the word I’d use now 😂
I thought I knew this hike well, so obviously I didn’t need to check the route… despite it being about 3 yrs since I’d last been here. It’s been a busy few weeks seeing everyone so thought I’d do this solo. First error… phone really low battery? Nah won’t really need it. Second error.
About 10 minutes in, I realised I’d parked in the wrong car park and walked down the wrong track. Didn’t recognise a single fu***ng thing.
But I thought, never mind, this might be fun. Different route and all that jazz.
Until I realised I had to climb over a barbed wire fence to get to the coast.
Oh well, just one. Ok, one more
And another one.. one gate I jumped I had to decide whether to jump into a bush of brambles or nettles. I opted for nettles
Nothing was going to stop me seeing the ocean.
Eventually, this special view greeted me.
I sat there taking it in, feeling pretty content until I realised why I’d never seen it from this angle before…
Well there isn’t actually a path here. 😂
The route back was even worse. I somehow ended up in a quarry with a sheer drop and warning signs everywhere saying DANGER.
Great. Too late now.
Then across three fields of herds of sheep, who were all staring at me. I feel we had a mutual understanding: I’m a bit scared of you, you’re a bit scared of me. I also wondered if an angry farmer was watching and might shoot me 😂
A few more barbed wire fences later, my blisters got so bad I took my trainers off and walked in just my socks. Through some spikey fields of hay. Lovely. No path because, yeah, it’s not even a route 🫠
It was getting dark, my phone was basically dead and I still had no idea where I was.
Eventually after one last hill I spotted a car park.
“Oh my god, that’s it! I’ve found it!”
Nope.
Wrong car park. wrong village. MILES away. 😂
I tried to flag down a passing car, looking like an absolute mentalist in socks, covered in scratches and leaves.
Thankfully, they eventually stopped and very kindly dropped me back at my car.
So, turns out I did not, in fact, know this place as well as I thought I did. 😂
