Cologne Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is the most visited landmark in Germany, attracting an average of 20,000 visitors daily. Standing 157 meters tall, it features the world's tallest twin church spires: it is the second-tallest church in Europe after Ulm Minster and the third tallest in the world. It is the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe. Its massive twin towers give it the largest facade of any church in the world. Medieval builders originally conceived the cathedral as a grand structure to house the Shrine of the Three Kings and to serve as a fitting place of worship for the Holy Roman Emperors. Although left unfinished during the medieval period, Cologne Cathedral was ultimately recognized as a masterpiece of exceptional intrinsic value and a powerful testament to the strength and persistence of the Catholic faith in medieval and modern Europe.

Lake Maggiore (Lago Maggiore), Italy's second largest lake, is not as popular as Lake Como and Lake Garda, but thanks to the Alps, it boasts far more scenic views than the others. Scattered in this western stretch of water are four islands of varying sizes, collectively known as the Borromean Islands. In 1632, Charles III of the Borromeo family fell in love with this group of islands and named the largest after his wife, Isabella, and now known as Isola Bella.

Isola Bella is elongated from north to south, resembling an aircraft carrier. The northern part houses the Borromeo Palace complex (Palazzo Borromeo), while the more open southern part houses the botanical garden. While the exterior of the palace complex is unassuming, the interior is truly breathtaking, with a four-story oval hall extending into two wings, each housing the Luca Giordano gallery, the Napoleon room, the tapestry room, and the semi-subterranean shell grotto. The Luca Giordano Gallery exhibits over 130 paintings by renowned artists such as Titian, Anthony van Dyck, and Luca Giordano himself, with a salon-style hanging that preserves the style of a 17th-century aristocratic collection. The Tapestry Room displays six Flemish tapestries made of gold thread and silk, with rich themes, striking details, and vibrant colors, making it one of the finest collections in Europe. The Shell Cave mimics an underwater cave, with walls and ceilings strewn with dark volcanic rock, light pebbles, shells, plaster, and mirrors, creating a wonderfully airy feeling. The palace's most striking decoration is the frescoes that utilize perspective techniques, which not only create depth with false windows, false statues, and false terraces but also reduce the sense of emptiness with vivid images.

Another major attraction on Isola Bella is the pyramid-shaped terraced garden called the "Giardino D'Amore" (Garden of Love). Influenced by the Mediterranean climate, flowers bloom here annually from April to October, with azaleas and camellias being the most popular. The island is also home to many white peacocks, which make for excellent photo opportunities.
