Recent work as for KBS (Korean Broadcasting System) -

In Indonesia, there is a 16-year-old environmental activist. Aesh Nina Ajira (hereinafter referred to as Nina) informs her world of the reality of plastic waste piling up in every vacant lot in the village where she lives. Why is the village where Nina lives covered in mountains of plastic waste? As of 2022, global plastic production is expected to be 400 million tons, approximately three times the current amount by 2060. The amount of plastic waste generated is also rapidly increasing. However, many ‘eco-friendly’ countries are sending waste plastic to countries with weak environmental regulations in the name of recyclable resources. While developed countries are increasing recycling rates, imported plastic waste is piling up in Southeast Asian countries. ‘There is no sustainable Earth’ Part 2, , looks at the other side of sustainability pursued through recycling and the world’s environmental inequality.

■ Fuel from Indonesian tofu factory, imported plastic waste
■ Plastic waste mixed in with imported paper, increasing number of ‘plastic farmers’
■ The truth hidden in the high recycling rates of eco-friendly countries
■ Environmental activist Nina, a 16-year-old girl who sent letters to world leaders

Beyond the hopeful promises of eco-friendly countries, green rice fields are turning into plastic tombs. Part 2 of ‘There is no sustainable Earth’, , will be broadcast on KBS 1TV at 10 PM on Thursday, January 18.
