Desert Point is one of those waves that never disappoints. It always gives you exactly what you’re searching for. This wave is just insanely photogenic, and no matter where you take the photo or shoot the video, every angle feels like the best one. Every surfer loves it, and it doesn’t matter if you’re riding it frontside or backside, what really counts is drawing your line all the way through and enjoying it till the very end.

August 11 was easily one of the biggest swells we’ve had here in Indo. The Grower, the last section, was as heavy as it gets super challenging. But even the Point delivered some serious mental moments. The boys absolutely scored out there, and there’s plenty more swell on the way

It’s only a matter of a few weeks now before the 2026 season kicks off here in Indonesia. Here, plays hide and seek inside the barrel at Desert Point and he does it very well. See you out there again this year.

I decided a few months ago to take part in the World Sports Photography Awards, one of the major global contests celebrating excellence in sports photography, and I’m proud to be among the 2026 finalists.

This photo was taken this June, the day before the NIAS Pro 2025, at Sorake Beach. On the day before the official contest, we had a good swell running all day long, with consistent, high-quality waves.

I stayed in the water for almost three hours with my Canon EOS R3 and Canon EF 8–15mm fisheye, shooting with my C5100. Just under an hour before sunset, I decided to get out of the water to mount the CF685 flash housing. A few minutes later, I was back in the lineup to capture this beautiful moment of

The beauty of shooting with flash inside the barrel is unmatched. Using a slower shutter speed allows the water to stay alive with motion, while the flash freezes and perfectly illuminates Yuji’s face.

Inside the barrel, with the sun positioned behind a curtain of cascading water reflecting through the wave, it feels like shooting in a studio. 📸
