Perhimpunan Amatir Foto - PAF (then Preanger Amateur Fotograafen Vereeniging), the first photography club in Indonesia (then Dutch East Indies) was founded on 15th February 1924 in Bandung. Wolff Schoemaker, well-known art-deco architect, and Prof. Schermerhorn of Technische Hogeschool (TH), now Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). The word “Preanger” is derived from the term of Parahyangan which ref
erred to the mountainous region that is now becoming the western part of Java. PAF is closely linked with one of the oldest hotels in Bandung, Hotel Preanger. In addition, that PAF was established here, also for three decades later, PAF hold monthly meetings in this historical hotel every third-Wednesday of each month. Besides other major events, this monthly meeting is still continuously held and becoming inseparable part of PAF until now. Currently PAF is the oldest photography club in Indonesia with a high level of activity and regeneration that runs through all walks of life.
