One of the most unforgettable moments while diving in Tulamben. There are dives where you look for something. And there are dives where you stop looking. You just hover there, surrounded by thousands of fish, watching the whole school move as one living organism. Every turn, every change of direction, every opening and closing of the formation happens almost simultaneously.

And somewhere in the middle of all this chaos, I could think about only one thing: Why the hell did I bring a macro lens on this dive instead of a wide-angle? 🤦‍♂️

Forever grateful that my dive buddy Cedar Saree had a wide-angle setup and managed to capture these incredible moment for me. 🐟🌊

Meet Coryphellina lotos 🪻
One of those nudibranchs that looks less like an animal and more like a tiny underwater flower. Its body is covered with long, translucent cerata, each one catching the light and ending in a vivid purple tip. From above, they almost form a delicate crown around the animal. But those “petals” are not just for show. The cerata are extensions of the digestive system and are also part of the nudibranch’s defence system - making this beautiful little animal much more functional than it looks.

Meet Yellow Pigmy Seahorse.
Most divers know the classic pink Hippocampus bargibanti, perfectly matched to the pink sea fan Muricella plectana.
This one is different. The yellow morph is far less frequently encountered and lives on a different host gorgonian - Muricella paraplectana. Its color isn’t random. Even the tubercles covering its body mirror the shape of the coral’s closed polyps, making it almost impossible to spot.
Finding a Bargibant’s pygmy is already special. Finding the yellow morph feels even more rewarding.

Madsurf custom board Аренда досок, ремонт, организация всевозможных трипов по Корее и прочее. Обожаю такие знакомства, когда с первых минут чувствую абсолютно идентичный моему вайб. The Flame Coryphellina looks like it’s glowing from within - but that’s just clever anatomy, not fluorescence.

Like other aeolids, it feeds on hydroids and stores their stinging cells inside the tips of its cerata, turning its prey’s weapons into its own defense.

Its translucent body lets light pass through the cerata, making them look like tiny flames. That’s exactly why I love experimenting with underwater lighting - sometimes a small change in light reveals a completely different animal. 🔥📷🌊

Meet Red-lined Jorunna
At first glance, this nudibranch looks smooth. But under high magnification, its body is covered with thousands of microscopic bumps called caryophyllidia. They give the skin its velvety texture while helping the animal sense its surroundings across almost its entire body.
The fine dark lines aren’t just decoration either. They follow the folds of the mantle, breaking up the animal’s outline and helping it blend into the sponges where it spends most of its life.
One of my favorite features is the tall pocket surrounding the gills. At the slightest disturbance, the entire gill plume disappears inside almost instantly, like retracting into a protective shelter.
