Fourteen years ago, I did what any sensible person would never do, I quit banking and journalism and jumped straight into aviation, moved to a new country and started life surrounded by complete strangers. Naturally, everyone back home thought I had lost my mind, especially since I was doing pretty well for myself. But I ignored the advice, listened to my instincts and boarded the flight anyway… literally.
Fast-forward 14 years and here I am, still standing, still flying and happily proven right. Somewhere along the way, I traveled the world, met people from every possible culture and learned that “home” doesn’t always mean where you are from, sometimes it’s where you land. Doha became my home away from home and the strangers I once worked with somehow turned into friends and family.
This job gave me a lot: dream destinations, a dream car (yes, that still matters), a place I proudly call home and the biggest upgrade of all… meeting my life partner and building a family. Not bad for a “risky decision,” I would say…
It’s been a proper roller-coaster ride… turbulence included… but every bit of it has been memorable. If my previous jobs taught me how to survive the corporate world, Qatar Airways taught me how to deal with people from every corner of the planet… sometimes all on the same flight. I have learned a lot, laughed a lot and grown even more.
Fourteen years have flown by (pun fully intended) and with many more to come, I am grateful for the journey… because some risks really do take you exactly where you are meant to be. ✈️😄
