Continuation of my last post... Borašnica peak (1887mnv)

After we made it up to Borašnica we took some rest and checked the destroyed military installation. There was a tunnel which was going into the mountain but we didn't have proper lights and also, we thought it's better to be safe. Went in until we could see properly and where the tunnel split it was total dark so that was it.
We climbed up to the top and it was WOW! The view of the surrounding mountains was absolutely amazing we could see very far in every directions. I guess that was the reason why they put this station here. Konjic was at the foot of the mountain and the peaks of Prenj felt like we could touch them. The pictures don't do justice but this view is in my Bosnian top three for sure... :)
When we finished taking pictures and eating we started the descent. Opposed to the six hours getting up the way down was only an hour and we got down 20 kilometers to Boračko lake without a pedal stroke. We deserved it for our sufferings... :)

I haven't posted for a while but due to the current situation I have time to go through on last year's pictures and hopefully I can add more this year.

Last summer, we did a two days adventure to Boračko lake/Borašnica and Bjelašnica.
We arrived to Boračko lake in the afternoon ad after we found our camp site we set it up. Made the usual and necessary grill with a couple of beers and prepared for next day's ride.
We started from Boračko jezero (400mnv) and our destination was the old military base on Borašnica peak (1887mnv). The first 5km of the 20km ride was on asphalt and it started with a 300m climb on the first 4km which was a good warm-up.
After leaving the asphalt we continued on the old military road up to the peak and the ride was tougher than expected. We knew that there is no water source on the way up and we thought we carry enough water with us but in the close to 40℃ heat it was hard to manage our supply. Around two third of the way up we saw the wild horses of Prenj in the mountain side they were very beautiful.
As we got higher and the road was less used the rocks also became bigger and there were section where we had to push the bikes. My friend had a puncture and fixed it with some improvisation. Luckily, there were no other technical problems.
With the frequent breaks it took us 6h15m (3h40m riding time) to make it to Borašnica... The initial 4.5-5h plan turned out to be too optimistic but eventually, we made it. 😅

(The next post will be about the peak.)

Livno - Day 2.
On the second day of my visit to Livno, I planned to ride/hike up to the Cincar peak (2006m) and go around the mountain making a ~50km loop.
I rode up to the abandoned Austro-Hungarian stable (1400m) at the foot of Cincar and from there I continued on the marked hiking trail. I managed to ride up to 1600m but from there the trail became too steep and too rocky to continue with the bike. I took some rest, left the bike behind and continued hiking up to the peak. The hike was short but steep and demanding in the cold wind. I took me almost an hour to go up 400m elevation in 1,3km. The view was breathtaking, Busko lake on one side and the ski slopes of Kupres on the other side.
After returning to the bike I rode down on the open mountainside towards the gravel road. At some places on the north side, the road was still blocked by snow. I could go around and continued for a while but I reached an area with landmine signs. It would have not been possible to continue on the road only as I had to go around the snow a couple of places so I decided to turn back.
On the way, I found another abandoned place which used to be a stable and milk factory in the Austro-Hungarian times and I met some wild horses again.
At the end with the detours, I almost rode as much as I planned originally so the day was successful.
One thing is for sure, I will return and discover this beautiful area a little bit more.

Livno - Day 1.
Recently I went to a two-day visit to a small town in Hercegovina, Livno.
The first day I discovered the area around the city and I rode up to the plateau of Cincar mountain.
First, I tried to find the way up to a watchtower which was on a ridge above the city. After enjoying the great view and taking some pictures I continued my way up to the mountain. Livno is famous about the wild horses in the mountains and I was lucky enough to find some of them. I've never seen anything like this before it was an amazing experience. After a break, I continued searching for the trail that goes up to the peak and the sunset caught me when I reached a destroyed Austro-Hungarian stable at the foot of Cicnar. I turned back and get down quickly before the dark with a plan to come back and go up to the peak the next day.

One of my regular and favorite rides is the ride to Srebrenik fortress. On the way, there is a small church before the village Straža. It was recently rebuilt and only the columns at the entrance were kept from the old one. It's very nice although I miss the 'feeling' of the ruins.
The included old pictures were taken in March 2018.
