🌑🏜️ Happy Attar Friday 🏜️🌑

This week, we have something a little special on the menu: Tauer Attar AT

I’ve wanted to add an attar to my collection for a long, long time. I’ve noticed that my skin usually works better with higher concentration fragrances, so after buying L’Air du Désert Marocain and finally understanding why Tauer is so highly rated, I had to try his take on an attar too.
And honestly, I’m very happy I did.

The scent:
Dark, smoky woods with a soft hint of flowers underneath. It feels exactly like how I’d imagine a modern, finely crafted attar to smell: rich, deep, a little mysterious, but still very easily wearable.
I tried it on its own, and it’s beautiful, but I also really love it for layering. In fact, I layered it with L’Air du Désert Marocain, and the combination is breathtakingly amazing. Warm desert air, smoke, woods, florals, depth… it just works ridiculously well.

The photo:
Well, yeah… another desert fragrance photo. This time, I imagined it as a cold desert night, with stars overhead and a full moon lighting the scene. The reflection catches the metallic emblem on Tauer’s small, cute bottle, giving it that quiet, moonlit glow.
Honestly, I think this is one of my top 5 photos. Note: that’s actually sand under the bottle.

Hope you like it 😄

What’s your favorite layering combo?

🍹🌴 Happy Fragrance Friday 🌴🍹

This week’s pick is my new summer-ready addition: New Notes Cocktail Maracuja.

I made a quick stop at a store that had this bad boy. Originally, I went in to sniff the Musk Complexity from N.N., but I ended up being more than impressed by Cocktail Maracuja... So, I got one some time later.

The scent:
According to what I know about the technical side of perfumery, creating a convincing maracuja (passion fruit) note isn’t exactly easy. Especially one that smells this good.
At the time, I also had a sample of Oud Maracujá. While that’s a great scent, I personally prefer this direction much more. Apparently, going fruity with oud is the easier route. But when I want to smell like passion fruit, I don’t necessarily want leathery, oudy notes in the mix.
This is a big, thick, juicy passion fruit and fruit cocktail, backed by that typical niche-level depth and complexity. It emits well, feels dense, but never feels overpowering or cloying.

The photo:
I picked up a few tips from a top-tier professional photographer and tried to push this one a bit more toward a commercial look rather than my usual abstract, theme-heavy style. I also leaned into the 60-30-10 rule for colours.
Honestly, I’m more than happy with how it turned out.

Hope you like it 😄

What’s a fragrance that completely surprised you compared to what you originally went in to try?

🌹🪵 Happy Fragrance Friday… Tuesday 🪵🌹

This week’s pick is has been in my collection for a while. One of those “this made too much sense at the time” kind of purchases:
Oud Sultan by Maïssa.
At one point, Dior Oud Ispahan was comfortably sitting in my top 3. Still top 5, to be fair. But as the bottle started running dangerously low, I went looking for something that could scratch the same itch without the same… commitment.
That’s how I stumbled into Oud Sultan. Yes, technically a dupe. But one of the good ones - the ones where we say “inspired” not “copied”.

The scent:
Very much that classic Middle Eastern rose-oud DNA, just like Oud Ispahan. But this one leans a bit darker. Slightly spicier, a touch more brooding. It’s less polsihed and that actually works in its favour.
Performance is easily on par, maybe even pushing past it in some cases. But the way it shows up is different. Oud Ispahan cuts through almost any situation effortlessly. This one feels more selective. It comes alive in colder weather, where that darker edge starts to make more sense.

The photo:
I figured I’d challenge the doubters this time… apparently I only shoot fragrances horizontally.
This bottle doesn’t make it easy either. Slightly awkward round proportions, a bit tricky to balance visually. But, it’s actually a really nice piece. Oh and by the way, the build quality is surprisingly solid. Definitely not giving “cheap dupe” feel.

Hope you like it. 😄

What’s a fragrance where the “alternative” ended up being just as satisfying as the original?
