闊褶蛙 Brown Wood Frog ⬇️ 中文在底 ⬇️

The Brown Wood Frog is a small frog with a body length of about 5 cm. Its body is flat and color ranges from yellowish-brown to reddish-brown. The most distinctive feature is the thick, bright orange-red fold running along each side of its body. Its eyes are quite unique — the upper third of the eye is yellow or golden, while the lower part is reddish-brown I LOVE THEIR EYES 🥹

闊褶蛙屬於小型蛙科，身長約5厘米，身體平扁，背部顏色多為黃褐色到紅棕色不等，最明顯嘅係身體兩側各有一條明顯的粗厚橙紅色褶紋突起。牠的眼睛很特別，上半部約三分之一呈現黃色或金色，下半部則是棕紅色 #眼睛控 的我特別喜歡 🥹

I came across this stunning female bamboo pit viper (BPV) on a rainy night — possibly the largest female I’ve ever seen! Female BPVs typically grow between 60 to 90 cm. These fascinating snakes are ovoviviparous, meaning they give birth to live young rather than laying eggs. With its bright green body and yellow belly, the bamboo pit viper closely resembles Greater Green Snake, another common species you could find in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, this similarity sometimes causes all green snakes to be mistakenly feared and harmed by humans. 🥲

A quick way to tell them apart:
Bamboo viper >> Vertical pupils with yellowish-gold eyes that could also range from orange to red, looking like “badass” cartoon character
Greater Green Snake >> Round pupils, with bling bling eyes, almost “cartoon cute” appearance

Both species play important roles in the ecosystem. If you encounter one in the wild, it’s best to leave it alone. If a snake is found near urban areas, contact the police to have a professional snake catcher safely relocate it. Meanwhile, keep an eye on the snake to ensure it and people nearby remain safe.

上年某個雨夜我遇見了這隻青竹蛇，可能是我見過最大隻的雌性個體！雌性竹葉青蛇通常身長介乎60至90公分，牠們是卵胎生（會生下幼蛇而不是產蛋）。

青竹蛇有毒，能阻止血液凝固。只要被咬後能夠即時前往醫院急症室接受治療，甚少致命。被咬後切勿嘗試去尋找蛇，以免被再次咬傷，或因緊張而影響判斷。在香港，鮮綠色的毒蛇只有青竹蛇一種，所以只要認得青竹蛇，就能判斷是否被其咬傷，避免不必要的恐慌。

牠們鮮豔的綠色身體和黃色腹部遠看跟翠青蛇（無毒）非常相似。因為這相似令所有綠色蛇類都會被誤認而遭到人類的傷害。🥲

辨別方法很簡單：
竹葉青蛇 >> 瞳孔呈垂直狀，眼睛是黃金色調，有時甚至帶橙色至紅色，看起來像典型的帥氣反派卡通角色
大綠蛇 >> 瞳孔圓圓的，眼睛閃閃發亮，幾乎有可愛小呆卡通角色的感覺

這兩種蛇在生態系統中都扮演重要角色。如果在野外遇到牠們，最好不要干擾。如果蛇出現在市區附近，可以聯絡警方安排蛇王來處理，同時留意牠和周圍的人，確保兩者安全。

中文在底⬇️ Some butterflies have unique colour of chrysalises! These shiny, metallic chrysalises aren’t just beautiful — they’re also a clever form of camouflage. Their reflective, mirror-like surface can trick predators into thinking they’re droplets of water, beams of light, reflecting the surrounding to blend in, or even another predator when insects see their own reflection. This helps protect the butterfly inside as it transforms.

The Common Crow Butterfly chrysalis is known for its metallic colour, it can sometimes appear with, silver, or bronze.

Tree Nymph butterfly chrysalis is a brilliant, shiny, metallic gold, often adorned with small black dots.

The golden color isn’t real metal. Instead, it’s caused by structural coloration (like peacock feather and beetles), where tiny layers in the chrysalis reflect light to create the metallic effect. Right before the butterfly emerges, the chrysalis becomes transparent, revealing the butterfly inside.

有冇見過金色嘅蝴蝶蛹呢？其實我喺野外都係見過一次
金色在人類眼中顯眼，但在大自然中能反射森林光影，有偽裝效果讓捕食者以為這些蛹是水滴、光束，甚至是另一個捕食者的倒影，從而保護裡面正在變化的蝴蝶。

幻紫斑蝶它的蛹可以呈現金色、銀色或青銅色的金屬光澤。大白斑蝶的蛹是閃亮的金色，並帶有分布整個蛹的小黑點。

這種金色並不是真正的金屬外殼，而是由於結構色的效果(就像孔雀羽毛以及甲蟲的反光)。蛹殼內的微小層結構反射光線，創造出金屬般的效果。在蝴蝶即將破蛹而出之前，蛹殼會變得透明。

Asian Common Toad is a nocturnal amphibian that can be found everywhere in Hong Kong, particularly around water and along catch watcher. These toads mainly feed on insects and a variety of arthropods and mollusks. They secrete a potent and milky fluid from glands behind their eyes when they feel threatened. This fluid contains toxins that deter predators from consuming them, but there are some predators out there that remain unaffected (eg. Red-necked Keelback).

Their breeding season happens during the spring and summer rainy months. Male toads make a sound to attract females and then perform amplexus (like a back hug in pic 3), which also known as a “fake mating” because fertilization happens outside the body. During amplexus, the male holds onto the female with his front legs, pressing or grabbing her belly to stimulate her to release eggs. When the female lays her eggs, the male releases s***m at the same time. This close contact helps make sure more eggs get fertilized.

黑眶蟾蜍是一種夜間常見的兩棲類，廣泛分布於香港各處，特別是在水源附近。牠們主要以昆蟲為食，也會捕食各種節肢動物和軟體動物。當亞洲蟾蜍感到威脅時，會從眼後的腺體分泌出一種濃稠且乳白色的液體。這種分泌物含有毒素，可以有效嚇阻掠食者避免捕食牠們。不過，仍有一些掠食者對這些毒素不受影響，例如紅脖龜蛇（Red-necked Keelback）就是其中之一。

黑眶蟾蜍的交配季在春夏雨季，雄性會發出「咯咯」聲吸引雌性，並進行抱接(因為不是體內受精，所以有叫假交配)。雄蛙抱住雌蛙後，會用前肢按壓或夾住雌蛙腹部，刺激其排卵。雌蛙排卵時，雄蛙同步排精，讓精子和卵子在水中或體外環境結合。透過這種近距離的結合，即使是體外受精也會提高受精率。

📝 後記：從黑眶蟾蜍相片看到自己動物攝影的成長

冇錯！張相原本就係咁樣！讓我來分享一下......

2022年剛開始接觸herping時，真係夜繽紛，勁開心，我完全係「 有張清晰相就贏咗」嘅心態 —— 照片經常失焦，又唔識用閃光燈，後製技巧更是有待加強！花了一整年時間學習嘗試前中後期，直到2023年我才有信心分享第一張由2022年影落又成功後期製作的黑眶蟾蜍。

2025年中有一次在家附近拍到這隻蟾蜍(封面圖片的那個)！光線明顯好很多，構圖也更乾淨，和2022年比起來幾乎不需要太多修圖。可能也多虧了升級到全片幅相機，還有新款的Cygnustech柔光罩，哈哈。更重要的是，因為我的後期製作也有進展(當然因為 AI後期製作的時間及難道門檻也降低了)，還回頭給2022年的SH*T照片做了重新修圖，看到它們煥然一新，真的很開心。

回頭看這些照片的比較，正正就是一路走來的成長。持續嘗試、持續學習真的很重要。每一張照片、每一次修圖，都是進步的痕跡。總有一天，當你回頭看時，一定會驚訝自己走了多遠！
