I have some exciting news… 🫣

JLP has been invited to apply to become the photography provider for ESF schools in Hong Kong. 🎉

As many of you know, I’ve spent years reimagining what school portraits can look and feel like.

Less forced smiles.
More personality.

Less “say cheese.”
More confidence, connection and genuine expressions.

But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the people who know best are the parents looking at these photographs years later.

So I’d love your help.

✨ What do you love most about your children’s school portraits?

✨ What do you wish was different?

✨ What would make school photos feel more meaningful, more modern or more representative of your child?

Drop a comment below or send me a DM.

I’m listening, taking notes, and dreaming big about what school portraits could become for the next generation of children and families.

Let’s build something amazing together. 🩷

Young humans are not known for giving strangers their best smile on command 😅

Sometimes the magic happens instantly. Sometimes it takes a silly noise, a little chat, or letting them warm up for a minute first.

But when a parent says we captured their child’s personality in those few minutes? That’s the real win 💛📸

Most people know me as a photographer.

Some know me as a founder.

A few know me as the woman who’s already planning her next holiday while still on the current one. 😅✈️

So I thought it was time to share a few random, funny and slightly questionable facts about me.

And tell me… what’s one random fact about YOU that usually surprises people?

People often ask me how I manage school photography days, four children, a team, a business, content creation, and everything else life throws my way.

The truth?

I don’t always manage it perfectly. 😅

But there are a few habits that help me start the day feeling more energized, focused and ready for whatever comes next.

Some are simple.
Some are slightly crazy (hello 4:30am 👋).
And all of them make a huge difference.

Watch the reel for the 5 morning habits I keep coming back to. ☕📚

And tell me… what’s one morning habit you swear by?

EXCITED is an understatement 🙌

Behind every school photography day is a very glamorous operation of spreadsheets, early mornings, camera gear, coffee, problem-solving, and approximately 7000 steps before 10am.

And it’s all worth it! Thank you for trusting us with these special moments 🥹

With this caption:

Well... I’ve joined the Yap Challenge 😅 Which means for the next 6 weeks you’ll be seeing a slightly different side of me.

More talking.
More sharing.
More lessons.
More behind-the-scenes thoughts from the founder, not just the photographer.

If I’m honest, the idea of putting myself out there more is a little terrifying.

But I’ve spent years encouraging other people to be visible, trust themselves and take the first step before they feel ready.

It feels only fair that I take my own advice.

So bear with me.

I’m here to learn, improve, challenge myself, build confidence, and hopefully share a few useful things along the way.

Let’s see what happens. 🩷

We spend so much time worrying about the details before a family shoot.

✨ The outfits
✨ The shoes
✨ Whether everyone will cooperate

I’m going to let you in on a little secret – children rarely remember any of that.

What they do remember is the cuddles, laughter, and how it felt to be close to you.

A photoshoot is more about connection than anything else 🤍

One of the biggest surprises of entrepreneurship has been realising how many times you have to reinvent yourself.

The version of me who started this business could never have imagined photographing entire schools, leading a team, mentoring other photographers or thinking about education and the next chapter of JLP.

At the beginning, success came from doing everything myself.

Today, growth comes from doing less myself.

That shift has been far more uncomfortable than I expected.

Learning to trust people.
Learning to delegate.
Learning to let go of control.
Learning that being great at the craft and building a business require completely different skill sets.

For a long time, I thought growth meant getting better at photography.

Now I know that growth often means becoming a better leader.

If you’re in a season where the business feels different, harder, or is demanding something new from you, it might not be a sign you’re doing something wrong.

It might simply be a sign that you’re being asked to grow into the next version of yourself.

What version of yourself is your business asking for right now?

Consider this your sign to update that old profile pic!

Your headshot is often the first impression people get of you before you’ve even said a word. And whether we like it or not, people notice when it feels outdated.

A strong personal brand photo doesn’t need to feel stiff or overly corporate. It should feel like you on your best day – confident, approachable, and aligned with where you are now.

If your business, career, or brand has evolved, your image should, too 📸

I think I’ve finally figured out why social media has always felt so uncomfortable for me.

For a long time, every time I pressed “record,” I was thinking about myself.

Do I look okay?
Am I saying the right thing?
Will people think I’m showing off?
Who am I to be talking about this?

And honestly... it’s exhausting.

But lately I’ve realised that maybe I’ve been asking the wrong question.

Instead of asking,
“How do I look?”

I want to start asking,
“How can I help?”

Can I make another mom feel a little less guilty?
Can I help another business owner who’s figuring it out as they go?
Can I remind someone that these ordinary little moments with their children won’t last forever?

So this is my little promise to myself.

Less performing.
Less perfection.
Less worrying about what people think.

More educating.
More entertaining.
More connecting.

Because I don’t actually want this little corner of the internet to be about me.

I want it to be about the people I’m lucky enough to serve.

And if you’ve ever felt a little scared of being seen too... I hope you’ll come along for the journey 💞
