Nestled in the hills by the Closed Frontier of Sha Tau Kok is the village of Shan Tsui and what is a rare example of Japanese-built bunkers used to secure a stronghold on the occupied territories of Hong Kong. Follow The Battle of Hong Kong in 1941, Japan took the territory. Though seen as part of WWII it was long planned and achieved through the Japanese advancement through China during the second Sino-Japanese from 1937 on.
Though several structures are easily visible from the main path, the best trenches and bunkers take a little more effort to explore. Uniquely, there is still a frame and rook to part of one trench showing how it once looked.
