This is my welcome post to aerial photography. Not that I will turn my preferences into aerial photography from now on, but there are cases where view from sky level is the best choice to capture the view of a location.

In this case I found myself swimming in one of the most beautiful beaches in Peloponnese; Voidokilia beach. The round shape of the coast and the spectacular teal shades of the sea are only visible when seen from the sky.

The sun has just set when I decided to lift my drone in the sky. The capabilities of new drones have been to another level making easier to capture details and colours in darker scenarios, like this one. As soon as the sun went down, the heavy wind calmed and the whole scenery changed to a peaceful atmosphere covered in colours and wispy sounds.

If you find yourself in the region of Attica, one of the most worth-visiting sights is the Temple of Poseidon on Cape Sounion. The temple was built around 400 BC and remains one of the greatest landmarks and one of the most photographed places in Greece. This was my go-to location for capturing the Strawberry Moon rising behind the Temple of Poseidon, back in June 2025. I knew from the beginning that is one the most photographed places in Greece, and that there not that many options in terms of framing. However, I couldn’t resist giving a try and making my own from this amazing view.

“It’s not possible to witness the magnificence of a place if you don’t observe it during sunrise, when the first light of the day reveals the fine details of the landscape brightening up all of their dark corners”, that was my thoughts while we were at this amazing place. We had arrived the previous day and we were about to hit the trail towards the peak of Mporlero. I took the early start into my advantage (as an excuse) to set my alarm earlier than it should be, just to be able to enjoy dawn at this peaceful location. That was not the best thing though for my companions, since the alarms destroyed their peaceful sleep -sorry guys. All of a sudden I was the only one enjoying the sunrise, but that was more of a preference than a coincidence. Moments before sunrise and under complete silence, you think that you are listening to your deepest thoughts, desires and fears. However, the transition from night to day is so powerful moment, that you feel all the thoughts flying away by listening to the environment waking up transforming you to a newborn and ready to create your own world from scratch.

It is middle of the week, and you’re stuck in a crowdy and loud city, tired from an exhausting day at work and from a one-hour drive in traffic. But since you arrive home and you manage to put your pieces together, you enjoy a drink on the terrace or balcony during a summer evening observing the sunlight fading out and the night sky making his entrance. For your surprise, you notice the moon “in line” with three planets; Venus, Jupiter and Mercury. Moon and planets are some of the celestial objects that is possible to observe, even from heavily light polluted areas like Athens. After overpassing the thoughts about how this will affect your life and your character, you think about orbital paths and Cosmic distances, and suddenly your mind is clearing out and you are able to dream again.

On the 8th and 9th of June, we were able to observe a planetary conjunction; Jupiter and Venus appear close together in the sky as viewed from Earth. The planets are not actually close to one another in space but appear aligned because of their positions along their orbital paths. The view was quite appealing to the eyes and due to the fact that planets are visible even in the heavy light polluted city, like the city centre of Athens, everyone could witness this astronomical event.
Without having plenty of alternatives, I headed towards the Acropolis hill in order to capture the conjunction above the visitor center of the National Observatory of Athens, at Thision. The weather conditions were just as I wished and even I was in a rush (last minute decision), I got at the spot the right time; during twilight. As the daylight was fading away, we were able to see also Mercury a couple of degrees lower than Jupiter and Venus, making the frame a bit more interesting than it already was.

There are times you find yourself straggling for the composition, straggling with the weather or the lighting conditions, but sometimes everything turns to your favour and feels like it was made to be perfect. During our recent excursion at lake Plastiras, we had the chance to explore the mount region of Agrafa and the magical forest that is enclosing the lake; it seemed like the forest is hugging the lake to protect it against the fast pacing and loud lifestyle of the city’s. At this time of the year, nature is at its best, it’s alive, blooming fields and newborn species making their first steps into this ecosystem.
The heavy winter is in the past and left behind a huge amount of water, increasing lake’s water levels, which in combination with the colours of the belt of Venus and the rising moon was creating an unforgettable view.

Usually, at sunrise, we tend to turn our view towards the point where the sun will rise; that’s not always the best view though. Being at a mountain summit, you have to look at the opposite direction too in order to see the incredible colours of the “Belt of Venus” and Earth’s shadow, and if you’re lucky you may find yourself looking also the setting moon during this time.
That’s what this view was about; after hiking during the night, we reached the top just before the sunrise in order to see the sunrise from one of the most iconic peaks of Greece, the summit of Profits Ilias, at an altitude of 2404m.

Sunsets are always one of the most beautiful moments of the day, however places tend to be crowded and loud. That’s the reason why I prefer sunrises. After a hike and a peaceful overnight camp, you wake up at stunning locations to see the sunrise without being bothered by crowds or distracting noises, only the whispering of the breezing wind and the twittering.
Back in September of 2024, I found myself spending a night at Mount Helmos and waking up at an altitude of 2340m I had the chance to observe one of the most beautiful sunrises in my life. Cloud inversion at the distance valley accompanied by the belt of Venus, clear skies and the whole mountain was in peace.

On this day, I decided to make a present to myself; spend a day in nature. The low temperature wasn’t enough to stop me from enjoying a short hike and then an overnight camp at Lake Doxa. Rain, hail and wind were hitting me all day, and just after midnight everything changed; clear skies and a lake in peace. All campers were sleeping and at this moment I had all for myself. I was freezing by all means, but I couldn’t go to sleep, I was standing behind my camera and staring at this view hoping that the timelapse will deliver what I was witnessing.

After a short evening walk we reached the chapel located at the edge of the cliff. At the time of the day, the chilly weather and the wind made the presence of a hot cup of coffee necessary. The waxing gibbous moon was already in the sky, adding an extra element of interest to this amazing view.
