GREEK NOTES — SPETSES, 01

A small selection from a weekend on the island — traditional boats, the waterfront, the old carriage routes and quiet everyday moments around the harbour.

What I enjoy most when photographing a place is looking beyond the obvious views and focusing on the details, people and scenes that give it character.

A few photographs from Spetses, Greece.

Which image from the series stands out to you most?

Somewhere between the mountain and the sea.

A quiet corner of Greece, where everything seems to find its place — the olive trees, a house on the hillside, a boat on the water.

Sometimes a landscape doesn’t need to be dramatic to stay with you.
It just needs to feel untouched.

Greece, as I like to remember it.

One sunset. Three ways of seeing it.

The light didn’t change much between these frames.
My position did.

A few steps, a different foreground, a wider view — and the same evening became three completely different photographs.

That’s something I keep coming back to in photography: sometimes the better image isn’t somewhere else. You just haven’t found the right way to frame what’s already in front of you.

1, 2 or 3 — which frame would you keep?

Photographing Greece beyond the postcard.

Summer here is built from details.

Light reflecting from the sea.Weathered stone.
A boat waiting by the shore.

Colour appearing between narrow streets..

People simply living beside the water.

These are not necessarily the scenes we travel to photograph.
They are the ones we discover while looking.

For me, photographing Greece is about bringing those fragments together — not to show what a place looks like, but something of what it feels like to be there.

There is a particular kind of fulfillment in a Greek summer that has very little to do with doing more.

It is found in the details — sun warming old stone, faded paint on a wooden door, the texture of something made by hand, a fishing boat resting on blue water, colours shaped by years of salt and light.

Perhaps that is what summer gives us: enough time to notice that a full life can also be a simple one

Stone. Wood. Salt. Colour. Sea.
Fragments of a Greek summer.

These are ordinary things, yet together they carry a sense of place that is unmistakably Greek.

Where the mountain meets the Aegean.

Three frames from a Greek summer — the sea stretching beyond the horizon, stone catching the last warm light, and chestnuts beginning their journey toward autumn.

That contrast is what makes these landscapes special. Sea and mountain exist almost side by side, while summer is still at its height and nature is already preparing for the season ahead.

A landscape defined not by one view, but by layers.

Where mythology still grows wild.

Deep in the forests of Pelion — the legendary land of the Centaurs — summer leaves its traces in the smallest details.

Wild berries at every stage of ripening, scattered between light, shadow and tangled vegetation.

No grand landscape needed.
Sometimes, a place reveals itself through the details.

Pelion, Greece.

One subject. Multiple ways of seeing it.

Start with the subject.
Move closer and isolate a detail.
Then step back and show the environment it belongs to.

You don’t always need an extraordinary subject to create a strong series.

Sometimes you just need three deliberate perspectives of an ordinary one.

Subject. Detail. Environment.

Photography Tips:

Good photography starts before you press the shutter.

The first frame is usually instinct.

The next frames are intention.

Move.
Observe.
Wait.
Refine.

The best image rarely comes from the first click—it comes from the decisions you make afterwards.

Instead of accepting the first composition, I looked for better light, a cleaner background, and a perspective that gave the subject room to stand out.

Great photography isn’t about finding better subjects.

It’s about making better decisions.
