The Aegean on a bad day, is still the most beautiful thing I’ve ever witnessed. The sea doesn’t ask for permission to be furious and the shores take all the rage with endless endurance for so many years.
And everything happens so quietly, yet it is loud while witnessed.
Winters in Karpathos island are so diverse and varied in weather conditions than the summers. All is needed is to embrace what was there since ever.

Another year around the sun.
Some places stay with you long after you leave them,
not because of what you saw there,
but because of what you felt.
This frame from Araki Beach in Karpathos feels like that to me,
a quiet reminder that even when life shifts,
there is still something calm waiting on the other side.
Sometimes a new beginning doesn’t arrive loudly.
Sometimes it looks exactly like this.

Today I want to share a black and white photo taken on the southwest corner of Karpathos, near Agrilaopotamos. A spot that has given me many visual memories and where I witnessed some severe storms. Every year the landscape changes due to human activities and I would like to remember this as it was. Many are resembling the Greek islands to summer vacation and sunny days. And the funny part is that it is due to a couple of weeks that they may have to visit them. What happens during fall, winter and spring though? I guess it stays within the island as a well kept secret.

When winter’s storms cleanse the soul of the island 🌊
The south winds arrived today on Karpathos, restless and urgent, carrying whispers of the thunderstorm on its heels. Waves crashed against ancient rocks, salt spray catching the fading light, nature’s way of washing everything clean.
There’s something profound about winter’s fury here—the way it strips everything bare, tests the resilience of stone and spirit alike. Each wave that breaks, each gust that howls, is part of the island’s renewal. The sea doesn’t apologize for its power; it simply does what it must.
And then, as the sun dips below the horizon, you remember: this is not destruction. This is preparation. Winter cleanses so that spring can begin again—softer winds, wildflowers pushing through cracks in the rock, the same sea turning gentle and inviting.
Everything must be made new. Even paradise needs its storms.
Shot in Afiartis, on a spot that will probably will never look the same after a few years from now, unfortunately or maybe not.

Shot on the first day of 2026. Location: Lefkos, Karpathos island. A quite windy and cold day with north winds hitting the shores and us. I had to bend my body towards the wind, just to manage to capture a few photos.
But what an experience, wandering around the island’s most crowded corners, but being alone this time of year.
Happy 2026 to everyone! Wishes for a year with less drama and turbulences ✌🏻

Living in Karpathos during winter may be a bit harsh and may feel lonely to many people. I like to think of it as like I am discovering the very deep of the soul of the island. Bright sunny days follow rainy clouds and vice versa. The weather changes constantly and every day you wake up, you really don’t know what to expect. And, despite a common belief that there’s nothing to do on a place like this during winter, well...I’m never bored and days pass by so quickly here.
Shot with my old and trustworthy Canon Eos 5D mkIII, as I don’t really care carrying it with me in humid conditions. Handheld 5 bracketed shots to catch all that dynamic range and edited in , after a long time only using .
It’s nice to remember every once in a while where you started at...
