Since I was a child, Peter Kweku Mends (AKA Mac Tontoh) has been a pillar of the local community in Tema community 7, running his famous “Kyebom”(omelettes and bread, cafeteria stand). Growing up, he would always tell me and my friends stories about Ghana’s past, passing down important lessons that would otherwise be forgotten to the youth.
Recently, I was heartbroken that Peter is suffering from diabetes, and is struggling to support himself following complications from the disease in his old age, especially after running his food stand for the past 48 years. I’m always striving to find ways to support and give back to my community where I can, and when I found out about Peter’s disease, I thought that starting a fundraiser is the least I could do for him.
That’s why I’m announcing today that I’m releasing an interview with Peter to promote a GoFundMe to try to support one of my idols in these trying times, and to help him live a comfortable life in his old age.
