Cassava farmers in Dambai in the Oti Region have blamed President John Mahama for the sharp drop in the price of cassava, which has fallen to between GHS300 and GHS400 per bag.

The farmers say this is a significant decline compared to prices recorded during the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, when a bag of cassava sold for between GHS700 and GHS800.

Dry and hazy conditions are expected to persist over northern Ghana and parts of the transition sector throughout the forecast period with a visibility range of 2km to 8km. Early this morning, patches of mist or fog are likely to develop over the coastal, forested and mountainous areas of southern Ghana.

Thereafter, bright and sunny conditions will prevail across the country. Nevertheless, localised formation of rain-bearing and thunder clouds are likely within a few locations along the coastline, the immediate inland areas of the coast, as well as the forest belt.

UPDATE: A Bank of Ghana document shows the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme (DGPP) recorded multi-billion cedi losses between 2022 and 2024, with total net losses exceeding GH¢7.1bn, driven largely by Gold-for-Oil and Gold-for-Reserves transactions.

The BoG says figures for 2025 are still under external audit, while maintaining the programme supports currency stability and FX reserves.

Partly cloudy conditions will prevail across most parts of southern Ghana this morning, with mist or fog patches expected over the coastal, hilly and forest zones during the early hours. From mid-morning into the afternoon, mostly sunny weather with intermittent cloud cover will dominate southern Ghana.

However, localised thunderstorms or rain are anticipated to affect a few locations along the coast, some inland areas and parts of the middle sector from the afternoon into the evening. Northern Ghana is expected to remain dry and hazy throughout the forecast period.

A driver and his mate have been arrested after police found a fertilizer sack containing 1,050 rounds of ammunition on their bus.

The suspects were picked up at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier while travelling from Accra to Tamale. Police say the ammunition was sent as a parcel to a person known only as Oboye.
