Un mois, déjà... à découvrir les routes et les pistes, les fleuves et les creeks, les villes et les villages de Guyane ; en immersion pour le tournage de Culture et Canopée.

Un film né autour du projet porté par Marion Deville et le collectif artistique GuyAlegria, qui nous emmène à la rencontre de celles et ceux qui créent, transmettent et ouvrent des espaces d’expression à travers l’Ouest guyanais. Des générations, des langues et des communautés qui se croisent au coeur d'une Guyane plurielle et vivante... 🌳

La tête dans les nuages depuis 3 semaines. Silencieuse sur les réseaux… pour être plus présente ici. 🌳

Me voilà en plein tournage du documentaire "Culture et Canopée", au cœur de la Guyane. Un film qui suit un collectif artistique initié par ma très belle amie Marion Deville… qui cherche à poser un regard sur celles et ceux qui font vivre l’expression artistique, là où elle n’est pas toujours accessible.

Rencontrer, observer, écouter, comprendre… ce que ces espaces permettent, pour celles et ceux qui les portent comme pour celles et ceux qui les vivent.

En attendant : quelques images suspendues, quelque part entre ciel et forêt.

Le film est entré dans ma vie un peu par accident, en 2023. Depuis, ça rythme doucement mes journées, mes déplacements, mes rencontres… une manière d’être au monde qui continue de se construire, pas à pas.

J’ai pris le temps de rassembler tout ça sur mon site, récemment mis à jour. Des projets passés et en cours, des extraits, des fragments de récits… et surtout, les voix rencontrées en chemin.

I’m happy to share the first images of my upcoming documentary film : Between the Lines.

Filmed in the delicate context of an armed conflict, at the heart of displacement camps, this project inevitably raised for me the question of legitimacy - as it often does...

It is thanks to Marin that this film could come into being. Author of "The Last One" and a survivor of the Khmer Rouge regime, he grew up in exile. Today, he entrusted me with his image, his words. Through him, the film is grounded in lived experience and opens a space for expression built on respect, listening and dignity... allowing voices that are rarely heard, often lost in the noise of war and the buzz of headlines, to exist.

Between the Lines is neither a film of denunciation nor a political statement. This documentary seeks to explore what is lived at a human scale, at the heart of conflict : pain and loss, of course… but also solidarity, transmission, care for one another, dignity. What endures, even when everything seems to falter.

It’s Sneak Peek Saturday ! A milestone for L’Autre Rivage… the film is now in the hands of Karl Baudoin ! A talented artist, who is composing the original soundtrack. Karl already composed the music for my first film, Mota Lava. Continuing this collaboration feels right, natural...

Grateful to entrust this important step to such a sensitive ear.

Filming in a context of armed conflict raises constant questions. About distance, legitimacy… what should (or should not) be shown. For me, ethical filmmaking begins with refusing voyeurism and miserabilism : refusing to reduce people to their pain and suffering.

In fragile contexts, the line is thin. Images can easily slip from testimony to exposure. I have (too) often witnessed how crisis becomes a backdrop ; not to understand what is lived, but to redirect attention toward the one holding the camera.

Vulnerability used for visibility.

For me, filming is not about taking possession of someone’s image. It is about standing beside. Looking "with"… not "at". Every image carries consequences and respect is not an intention, but a practice... renewed in every frame, especially when everything is already so exposed, so fragile, so at risk.

And perhaps this is where responsibility truly begins : choosing care over impact… and dignity, always.

I feel deeply grateful to all those who allowed me to film them for "Between the Lines". To those who trusted me with fragments of their lives, their memories, their pain... without knowing exactly where the film would go, or how it would be received. This trust carries responsibility... it asks for care, understanding, humility, respect… especially when stories are told in such a sensitive context. We're doing this together. Thank you...

It’s Sneak Peek Saturday ! Over the past few weeks, I’ve been quieter on social media… immersed in the making of a new documentary, in the context of the armed conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.

"Between the Lines" is an immersive film, without political discourse, centered on the human experience. Through the gaze of Marin, a survivor of the Khmer Rouge camps, the film connects the exiles of yesterday with those of today.

It explores the paradoxes of war : violence and solidarity, loss and transmission, waiting and movement.

Here are a few first little fragments of the film... images that seek to highlight what media don’t always show at the heart of conflicts : a teacher opening a classroom to displaced children, hands reaching out spontaneously with what little they have, a monk who listens, the expression of peace through art… and sometimes, simply, the act of walking together.
