In the late afternoon, my boyfriend and I plopped into a boat with about half a dozen other tourists. We had come to Portugal on a whim and on a whim decided to tour Lagos’ many grottos. The caves, arches, and cathedrals were awe-inspiring. There was so much beauty both in scenery and in love; I wanted to capture all of it. Two-and-a-half years later, I am finally going through the images. I have been disappointed that I can’t render more of the photos to reflect the immensity of the ocean in front of me, the towering rock formations above me. Sometimes a photo series does not happen the way you want. Sometimes it just doesn’t cooperate with my grandiose visions. Sometimes, you have to keep the photos merely as memory. Occasionally, however, you do get one. I look at this photograph and see it as I saw it then. Light. Shadow. Rock. The endless ocean.

Long walks on pearly beaches and I came to this little lighthouse in Portimao, Portugal. This trip is where I fell in love. This trip to Europe was all about spontaneity. We started in Paris and ended up here where it was still warm enough to swim in the Atlantic and spend evenings at cliffside cafes. It was October and it felt like the very air was alive with possibility.

A moment of luck in Lisbon, Portugal. Two fashionable women stopping on a long set of stairs snaking between buildings, it’s full length from sea-level all the way up the tallest hills. Views of Lisbon and the ocean were plentiful, beautiful on a warm October day. Photographing people is not something I normally do - it makes me uncomfortable - but this was an opportunity too good to pass up. I almost did.

A little bit of Louvre by my side.
When I first visited Europe in 2012, it was to study abroad in Russia. While there, I visited Ukraine, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. The next year, after I graduated from university, I returned to Georgia on a Fulbright Scholarship to teach English. Poland, Armenia, and Turkey followed. It would be another decade before I visited Western Europe.
My boyfriend invited me on a guys trip and Paris was not our final destination. He dismissed it because he had been there probably a dozen times before when he lived in Germany. Needless to say, I convinced him to stay a few days to walk around the city. Well after our trip, whenever the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre were mentioned, he’d squeeze my hand and look at me with such love in his eyes.
I guess there is a reason Paris is called the city of love. ❤️

I miss this place. This place that has taught me so, so much. I will forever love this mountain.

I have loved horses since I was little, but haven't gotten a chance to hang out with them for sometime. There is a horse that lives down the lane and sometimes I get a chance to photograph him. It is always a pleasure when I do.

I’m working on a fine arts series on root systems that expose themselves from the earth. Strength. Power. Adaptability. Beauty. Bounty.

Here’s my sneak peek.

A couple more photos looking back at France, 2023. The courses have me looking back on a lot of my old photos to see if I can apply the new skills I am learning. It’s fun. It gives me something to look forward to every day.

I am looking to relaunch my Etsy Store in the next month or so. Stay tuned!

I have an exciting update: I have enrolled in two online photography courses. One is to help me expand my skills in and outside the Lightroom; and the other course is to help me learn the business side of photography. I have wanted to grow my photography knowledge for some time and now is a great time to learn. For the first time in a decade, I have homework to do.
