Great night yesterday watching 7!!! Green woodpeckers, 1 female adult and 6 juveniles, love their quirky nature hopping around. A group of woodpeckers is called a 'descent'. Here's a few videos and a juvenile male flying toward me.

Swifts can sleep while flying, but they do so with one eye open and half of their brain awake.
This phenomenon is known as unihemispheric slow-wave sleep. It allows the birds to:
1: Rest one hemisphere: Switch off one half of the brain for rest while the other half stays active to navigate and control flight.
2: Keep one eye open: Monitor the environment and avoid obstacles. The open eye corresponds to the awake side of the brain.

Only seen a few over the years and never taken a good photo until yesterday. Finally got some of a Cuckoo.
An elusive bird, more recognised by its call then its appearance.
