Chloe & Charles at Old Sessions House 🤍

Quite possibly my favourite building ever. Originally built in 1782 as the Middlesex courthouse, Old Sessions House has witnessed more than two centuries of London life—and now, thankfully, considerably happier proceedings.

The enormous arched windows, soaring ceilings, worn walls and beautiful honey-coloured stone made my photographer’s heart happy. Light pours into every corner, the building has texture and history oozing from its walls, and wherever you turn there is another incredible place to make a photograph.

Alongside some beautiful portraits, I photographed the day as it unfolded: the guests, the conversations, the laughter, the hugs and all the small moments happening in between.

A brilliant day in one of London’s most extraordinary buildings, my creative heart is happy.

Seventeen years ago, a friend asked me to photograph her sister’s wedding.

I said no. Lots.

Photography was just a hobby. I wasn’t a wedding photographer, and the thought of being responsible for someone’s wedding was terrifying.

She didn’t accept my answer.

After a fair bit of persuasion/ bullying, I eventually gave in.

I barely slept in the run-up, and even lost weight. But I turned up and that wedding ended up being featured on a wedding blog.

I had absolutely no idea that would quietly change the course of my life.

Seventeen years later, I’ve photographed more than 700 weddings. I’ve travelled all over the UK and now find myself getting on planes to photograph weddings for couples from from all over the world.

It’s amazing looking back, because none of it was planned. There was no career strategy. No plan. Just an opportunity that I was almost too scared to take.

Sometimes life has a funny way of making a path for you. One you never would have thought of, never could have planned, but one that turns out to be far better than anything you could have come up with on your own.

It’s easy to get caught up in all the beautiful things that make a wedding.

The dress. The flowers. The tables. The details. The portraits.

And they all deserve their place.

But I’ve always believed the heart of a wedding isn’t found in any of those things.

It’s in the moments that happen when everyone has forgotten the camera is there.
