Finally getting very close to launching these 6x17cm, 5x7’ and 8x10’ pixl-latrs

I have asked this before (twice) and people have been very kind, so I appreciate asking again is cheeky…

… but, I could do with another 8x10 and 5x7 sheets of developed film to play with for my marketing images.

Can anyone help?

We have just published a really useful guide to converting colour negatives. There are lots of tools for this, but I frequently get asked for a guide on how to do it more manually in photo editing software. I asked friend of pixl-latr (and me) Sroyon () to put something together. As is always the case, he has put together a really excellent guide, which though it is specific to Affinity, is transferable to any software that has the same tools. I hope you find this useful!

It’s been a few weeks since i have shared a pixl-latr user article, but this is one I have been looking forward to sharing. If there’s one thing I have always been open about, it’s that my view is that pixl-latr is not the perfect solution for everyone, but that those who like it, really find it to be a very strong balance of advantages, compromise and price point. Daler is one such customer echos that view.

This week’s article comes from Richard ( ), a covid-times returnee to film photography after having packed it in around the mid-2000s. Richard’s earlier experiences of film probably mirror a lot of other peoples’, one where the results back from high street labs never quite matched expectations. Home scanning and the ability it brings to creating images that match a desired look has surely decreased that gap between expectation and reality. I would argue that in the right hands, camera scanning has probably helped even more people achieve what they hoped for from their results too. It certainly sounds – and appears – like Richard is in the group of people who have discovered this for themselves

There are a lot of pixl-latr users that take a frugal approach when it comes to various elements of their film photography. There are also a lot of film holders out there on the market these days, many of which offer more features at a higher price point, but few if any are as versatile at anything close to the price point. Leon Blankenhorn is a pixl-latr user that shares that view.

Every pixl-latr based digitisation rig seems to be different – I love this, it’s exactly how I hoped pixl-latr would be used by people. It’s a small tool within a wider collection of tools that people bring together to make a rig that works for them. The wide range of off the shelf parts and DIY bits that folks bring together to find thier perfect way to digitise their film never ceases to fascinate me – especially when they come from a professional background in digitisation. Josh () is one such person and has combined a DIY copy stand with parts from pixl-latr, .co and to make a compact rig that fits his purpose and within a small footprint. He’s getting great results too… his full story can be found on the blog on our website - check out the link in our profile
