CathyD Photography

CathyD Photography Hi I'm Cathy. I love photography, especially macro, and being out in a woods or a nature reserve hunting for creepy crawlies. Hello! - and welcome to my page.

However, I am also hireable for any midlands based non-wedding events, Theatre group photography, and promotional work! My name is Cathryn Dhonau and I hail from Worcester, England. Photography had been my hobby for many years, making time for it when I could between my shifts as a carer in a hospice. Working in care for 18 years, I listened to a lot of life stories, and all too commonly heard the

words “I wish I’d…”
Three short words heard so often eventually leave an indelible mark, and as much as I enjoyed care work, my dream was to be able to take my photography forward. I soon realised how hard it is to learn a new profession when wrapped up in such a demanding one, so with the support of my lovely family, I took a year out. I converted a bedroom into a small studio and concentrated solely on building my knowledge and confidence in as many aspects of photography as I could. I consider myself an ‘eclectic photographer’. I love it all: people, macro, scenery, creative, abstract – I find that the genres influence each other to often give me different ideas to capture what is happening around me. I get the same buzz from all of it and will try anything!

And finally I have been able to get out with the new Olympus camera kit and do a bit of what I bought it all for! I'm still waiting on a diffuser so lighting is a little harsh at present but otherwise I'm very pleased with it! Plus it's smaller and 755g lighter so I can easily shoot it one handed - meaning my other can hold a leaf or flower still on a slightly breezier day. Don't worry Canon I still love you for the other things. So good to get out togging the mini-beasties again though.

Another trip to Hillers Garden Centre Hide with mi mate Kev. Learning a new camera system (primarily for a dedicated macro camera) for which I only have that particular lens at present, so Kev was kind enough to lend me his 100-400mm lens to play with so I could get more used to it. My first time seeing Bramblings, Siskins and Red Poll in the flesh n feathers, with some lucky shots as I fumbled my way around dials and buttons😆 So good to get out again though!

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing the dress rehearsal of Astwood Bank Operatic Society's "The Yeoman of the Guard" - an operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan. As usual, the company go at it with gusto and it's obvious they all love performing. Having been ON the stage in last years show, it was lovely to see them all again as an audience member also. Next year....who knows....

Finally some down time to mooch through my "stuff to edit in the winter" folder. Here are a few from the Kempsey Camera CLub meet at the Tewksbury mop fayre in October. Lots of long exposure and trying to freeze fast motion was the order of the evening, along with a hotdog. I got some great expressions on kid's faces on the rides, but I have only posted a couple I would guess to be about 16+ having watched them come off the rides and I could see them the right way up! 😆If somebody knows them and I'm wrong please let me know and I'll remove.
