Wern Mynach, home to Barmouth & Dyffryn United

Barmouth & Dyffryn United FC, are one of the oldest, if not the oldest, Football Clubs in the U.K, first founded in 1863, and have a long history and tradition of producing excellent sides over the years, winning a variety of trophies along the way.

The club existed in 1863 and was one of six inaugural clubs when the Cambrian League was formed in 1896. Little is recorded of this early period. An incarnation of the club reformed in 1901. The Cambrian Coast Football League was founded in January 1920 and Barmouth were league champions in 1920 and 1922. In 1930 an eight-team Cambrian Coast League was revived. It ended in 1963. Prior to the outbreak of World War II, Barmouth FC and Dyffrin FC were two separate clubs competing in the Cambrian Coast League.[4] Following the ending of hostilities, Barmouth & Dyffryn United appear in the Cambrian Coast League. This would indicate that the current club was formed in 1945, following a merger of the two clubs.

Marine Parade, Barmouth

As tourism boomed in the late 1800s and early 1900s the need for more accommodation in Barmouth increased. One such development was Marine Parade. This was one of Barmouth’s most ambitiously scaled projects and was of symmetrical construction.
Another development on Marine Parade was the Pavilion Building. This was constructed in 1904 and housed retail premises, including a shoe shop, a news agent, a restaurant and a cinema. It was eventually demolished in the 1970s after being deemed unsafe and was replaced soon after with a more modern brick building housing an amusement arcade.

Conwy Castle and Town, Conwy, North Wales

🏰 This Castle was built by Edward I, during his conquest of Wales, between 1283 and 1287. Constructed as part of a wider project to create the walled town of Conwy, the combined defences cost around £15,000, a masive sum [slay] for the period. Over the next few centuries, the castle played an important part in several wars. It withstood the siege of Madog ap Llywelyn in the winter of 1294–95, acted as a temporary haven for Richard II in 1399 and was held for several months by forces loyal to Owain Glyndŵr in 1401. Following the outbreak of the English Civil War in 1642, the castle was held by forces loyal to Charles I, holding out until 1646 when it surrendered to the Parliamentary armies. It’s ring of Town walls cover three-quarter-mile, which completely enclose the original township of narrow streets. Protected by no less than 21 towers and three gateways they are - like the castle - amongst the finest of their kind in Europe.

The Victoria Tower, Greenock, Scotland

Standing at 245 feet, is part of the Inverclyde Municipal Buildings completed in 1889.

It was being built at the same time as the Glasgow City Chambers, and apparently, Greenock deliberately delayed publishing their plans until Glasgow had published theirs, so that they could ensure the Victoria Tower was higher than that of the City Chambers.

In the distance you can see the cruise ship MSc Virtuosa docked at the Greenock port.
