FIRST - 125 laps, 1290 miles, 53.8 mph average speed - the first British car to win Le Mans driven by the first person to enter the first-ever Le Mans. Before the ‘Bentley Boys’ there was another man who took his furious, hurtling piece of machinery out on the roads of Le Mans.

Working with the wonderful capturing the unique Aston Martin Vantage GTE Le Mans art car.

In 2015 chassis 002 took to the Le Mans grid wearing one of the most striking liveries in recent memory. Created by German artist Tobias Rehberger, the artwork used a complex, high-contrast graphic wrapping the car in warped lines and fractured geometries to generate a kinetic effect that blurred the boundary between sculpture and competition machine. Rehberger transformed the brutal, carbon-bodied racer into a rolling optical illusion intended to convey a sense of speed even when static.

“Every day, in every way, faster and faster.“ - Sir Henry (Tim) Birkin

There are many Bentleys with Tim Birkin connections but this 3 Litre Red Label was his first – and it raced with the works team at Brooklands. Not quite full throttle around the lanes and orchards near my home in Kent with thanks to and Nigel Boothman. Not a bad day at all…
