WHITCOMBE FROM THE AIR
Whitcombe is a small village and civil parish in the Dorset unitary authority area of Dorset, England, situated 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast of Dorchester. Dorset County Council's 2013 mid-year estimate of the population of the parish is 20.

Whitcombe village is next to the A352 main road between Broadmayne and Dorchester, between the parishes of West Knighton and Broadmayne to the east, West Stafford to the north, and Winterborne Came to the west. Whitcombe does not form an ecclesiastical parish, although Whitcombe Church has registers dating from 1762. The earlier registers were destroyed in a fire. The church, now redundant, is in a "modest but perfect location" according to Pevsner.

In the surrounding area there are a number of prehistoric earthworks.[2] Whitcombe was originally recorded as Widecome, with a land measurement of two hides. King Athelstan gave it to the Milton Abbey. At the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries, its ownership passed to the King. Around 1600, it was sold to a Mr Hull from Tolpuddle.

APRIL SUNRISE SETS FIRE TO ARMADA BEACON ON OKEFORD HILL
This morning, 11th April, the sun rose to set fire to the Armada Beacon on top of Okeford Hill in North Dorset.

This impressive beacon was constructed by the local scrap metal dealer free of charge and erected on land given to the parish by a local retired farmer. It was built for and first used as part of a nationwide chain in 1988 during the Armada celebrations and has been lit many times since, the most recent being for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 2002.

WEYMOUTH BEACH RACE - 9 OCTOBER 2022
The Weymouth Beach Race is organised and run by the Purbeck Motocross club. The club are based in the South West of England and have on average 10 members who all contribute massively to run the event. The club also have many people who volunteer to help from around the area and local business even close to help out. The Weymouth and Portland Borough Council have been great in supporting this right from the first event in 1984.

The event also raises money with contributions from the entry fees and programme sales for the local Weymouth and Portland Lions club. They use the money raised to help the blind and disabled with equipment, help with train fares to allow families to visit their sick children and also help the St John Ambulance staff to train their members and members of the public and they also help to provide entertainment for the elderly.

CAERNARFON CASTLE FROM THE AIR

Caernarfon Castle is a medieval fortress in Caernarfon, Gwynedd, north-west Wales cared for by Cadw, the Welsh Government's historic environment service. It was a motte-and-bailey castle from the late 11th century until 1283 when King Edward I of England began to replace it with the current stone structure. The Edwardian town and castle acted as the administrative centre of north Wales, and as a result the defences were built on a grand scale. There was a deliberate link with Caernarfon's Roman past, and the Roman fort of Segontium is nearby.

While the castle was under construction, town walls were built around Caernarfon. The work cost between £20,000 and £25,000 from the start until the work ended in 1330. Although the castle appears mostly complete from the outside, the interior buildings no longer survive and many of the building plans were never finished. The town and castle were sacked in 1294 when Madog ap Llywelyn led a rebellion against the English. Caernarfon was recaptured the following year. During the Glyndŵr Rising of 1400–1415, the castle was besieged. When the Tudor dynasty ascended to the English throne in 1485, tensions between the Welsh and English began to diminish and castles were considered less important. As a result, Caernarfon Castle was allowed to fall into a state of disrepair. Despite its dilapidated condition, during the English Civil War Caernarfon Castle was held by Royalists, and was besieged three times by Parliamentarian forces. This was the last time the castle was used in war. The castle was neglected until the 19th century when the state funded repairs. The castle was used for the investiture of the Prince of Wales in 1911 and again in 1969. It is part of the World Heritage Site "Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd".

MISTY MORNING SUNRISE AT CORFE CASTLE
Images show the historic ruins of Corfe Castle enveloped by the swirling mist, as the sun rises behind.
Corfe Castle is a fortification standing above the village of the same name on the Isle of Purbeck peninsula in the English county of Dorset. Built by William the Conqueror, the castle dates to the 11th century and commands a gap in the Purbeck Hills on the route between Wareham and Swanage. The first phase was one of the earliest castles in England to be built at least partly using stone when the majority were built with earth and timber. Corfe Castle underwent major structural changes in the 12th and 13th centuries.

In 1572, Corfe Castle left the Crown's control when Elizabeth I sold it to Sir Christopher Hatton. Sir John Bankes bought the castle in 1635, and was the owner during the English Civil War. While Bankes was fighting in London and Oxford, his wife, Lady Mary Bankes, led the defence of the castle when it was twice besieged by Parliamentarian forces. The first siege, in 1643, was unsuccessful, but by 1645 Corfe was one of the last remaining royalist strongholds in southern England and fell to a siege ending in an assault. In March that year Corfe Castle was slighted on Parliament's orders.
