Greg Murray - Wildlife and Nature Photography “Wildlife-led photography capturing animals as they are, in their own space, with landscapes that tell the story of where they live.

No staging, no gimmicks — just patience, respect for nature, and a love of the outdoors.”

Came across this unusual duck today, looks like a cross between a Northern Shoveler and a Mallard. The colours and body shape scream Mallard, but that oversized shovel-like beak definitely comes from the Shoveler side.

You don’t see hybrids like this very often, and the beak almost looks too big for the bird at first glance. Nature has a funny way of mixing things up sometimes. Not everyone’s cup of tea visually, but I always find these odd crosses fascinating to spot out in the wild.

Had the pleasure of watching 2 woodpeckers taking turns to feed their young through a hole in a large tree. They never stopped for a long time. These birds work extremely hard to feed the young

Nature isn’t always gentle.

A Grey Heron swallowing a whole duckling is a hard sight to watch, especially in spring when everything feels full of new life. But this is the raw reality of the wild — predators survive, prey take their chances, and the cycle continues as it always has.

Moments like this remind us that nature is beautiful, brutal, and completely honest. No filters out there on the marshes.

📸 Wildlife photography captures the full story — not just the pretty moments.

I was lucky to be able to take some time with a Barn Owl hunting this evening. Poor Vole 😢 but Owlets need feeding.

🎥 The Comeback of the Water Vole 🐾🌿

Meet the water vole — Britain’s fastest disappearing mammal… but making a quiet comeback.
Small, round, and often mistaken for a rat — but look closer 👇

👀 Blunt nose
🐾 Tiny ears
🌱 Loves rivers, reeds, and calm wetlands

If you spot one, you’re lucky. They’re shy, quick, and a real sign of a healthy habitat.

Protect the banks. Respect the wild. That’s how they thrive.

The sedge warbler might not have the flashy colours of some birds, but what it lacks in looks it more than makes up for in character. Usually found skulking through reeds and dense vegetation, it bursts into life with an energetic, scratchy song that seems to go on forever—often delivered from a swaying reed stem. What’s brilliant about these birds is their unpredictability; no two songs sound quite the same, as they mix in mimicry and rapid-fire notes. If you’re patient and keep your eyes on the reedbeds, you’ll often catch one climbing up into view before diving straight back into cover. A proper little performer of the wetlands.
