As a documentary wedding photographer, I preserve real, unposed moments and emotion. I like to know as much information as possible before the day so that I can be unobtrusive.
Photographers work in different ways but my top ten topics at pre-wedding meetings are:-
1. TIMINGS- so that I am in the right place at the right time, plus buffer times. I need to make sure any 'formal' photos you have requested are completed with time to spare.
2. INFO FOR WEDDING PARTY - Let them know the type of photography you have asked for and photos you DO NOT WANT so that bridesmaids/groomsmen dont set any up. When everyone actually needs to be ready, not just ceremony time. Keeping hold of bouquets and leaving jackets on until formal photos are complete and much more.
3. FAMILY DYNAMIC- very important in the morning and during the group photos. I don't want to ask a question that may cause awkwardness, embarrassment or sadness.
4. BODY CONFIDENCE- most of us have a part of our body we don't like, or a preferred profile.
5. INFO FOR PARENTS. Let them know what type of photography you have chosen and who you have included in group photos. Can avoid awkwardness or arguments on the day.
6. A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE COUPLE. So that I get a feel for their character and dynamic.
7. COMMUNICATION with guests. Who is making announcements and helping to keep the timeline on track.
Letting everyone know when the group photos will be, so that they don't disappear.
8. POTENTIAL STRESS POINTS or delays and how to avoid them.
9. FLOW & VIBE of the day. Hopefully you have chosen your photographer because they fit with this. Important that they have all the information.
10. COUPLE & GROUP photos, what couples want from these, how I approach them, their favourite places at the venue to take them and estimated timings. Followed by a little practice so that I can capture genuine moments, emotion and the couple get used to me and how I work.
Whatever vibe you have chosen for your wedding day and style of photography, I hope it is the best day ever!
