The Stradey Estate is delighted to share that we have renewed the lease of the 1st XV pitch to Furnace RFC Ltd for a further 99 years to safeguard the club’s role within grassroots sport in our community.
A monumental occasion in the clubs history 🍒
The club are beyond thrilled to announce two major updates that future-proof our club for generations to come. As of June 1st, we officially completed our incorporation process as a private company limited by guarantee. With this completed, we have secured a new agreement to lease our home ground, Cae Castell!
The transition to a limited company has been years in the making. Supported by the WRU, this crucial step removes personal liability risks to protect those volunteers who are legally and financially responsible for the day to day running of the club.
We want to take this moment to formally thank all the trustees who have served Furnace United over the decades. You literally put your lives on the line to secure the survival and success of this club. Your selfless dedication paved the way for enable this change of legal structure. A massive thank you also goes to our solicitors, Hugh James, for dealing with all the legal work and guiding us through this process.
Ed Mansel Lewis of Stradey Estate, was watching a nail-biting game last season against New Dock Stars. Watching 1st Captain Joe Qualters-Jones slot that massive game-winning kick from the sidelines, Ed realised the profound importance of Cae Castell.
“Standing there as landlord, knowing there were only 11 years left on the lease, I thought: how can it be that the club’s future depends on me? In that moment I decided we had to secure the long‑term future of the club. I immediately acted to renewed the lease for 99 years. It means you’re not going to think about it again.”
