"Eilean Glas, Eilean Pinc" 🌸

A photo I have been meaning to share for a while now of the rugged Eilean Glas, just off the coast of Scalpay, which is in turn, just off the coast of Harris. The lighthouse will have been just behind me, but I loved the interaction of the water and coastline here, and the splash of colour from the pink thrift in the foreground, being picked out by the light.

The lighthouse on Eilean Glas is a prominent landmark as you get the ferry into Tarbert from Uig, on Skye. Passing the lighthouse, you know you are almost at the journey's end, and yet the adventure is just beginning.

Tempting the Tide

As I was exploring the coastline around Mullaghmore, I spotted this lone fisherman on the very edge, appearing to be being dwarfed by the waves. He didn't hang around that spot for long. I wonder if he managed to catch anything.

Crepuscular Glow

This is another shot from an evening in July at Turnberry Lighthouse. While most of my attention was on the lighthouse, I couldn't resist breaking away for a minute to capture the crepuscular light rays from the setting sun. I liked the glow of the reed tips in the foreground in the grasses. The camera can always pick out more details than the eyes though, making this a rare branch off into wildlife photography for me, if your eyes and Facebook's resolution are good enough...

Catching the Light

Another shot from the beautiful Mullaghmore Head, with the imposing Slieve League cliffs in the distance, glowing red in the last light of the sun. I like how the light is at the perfect angle to pick out all the detail in the foreground rocks, with the contrast in the rich reds and deep blues in the sky.

I expect that, here in Glasgow at any rate, tonight's eclipse is going to be somewhat obscured by cloud. That night in Sligo was perfect photographic weather though. I look forward to seeing all the eclipse photos tomorrow. I think I will just spend my evening remembering a great evening on the shoreline.

Turnberry Lighthouse Golden Hour

While I have been sharing some images from Ireland recently, this is my first picture from Scotland for some time. This was taken at Turnberry Lighthouse on a beautiful summer's evening. With the waters so calm, I thought I would look for some different compositions from the usual, and make use of the beautiful light on the foreground.

Have you visited the lighthouse yourself? Do you have a favourite lighthouse around Scotland?

Throwing it back to 2015! 🕺✨

I’ve been thinking back on my wonderful time in Tubbercurry and Drumshanbo this year, and it reminded me of this video from back in 2015. It proved quite popular at the time - which is to be expected whenever "Crazy Legs" takes to the dance floor. Step dancing at its finest!

I’ve tidied up the footage a bit to share with you all again. What a night this was!

👇 Were you there? Let me know in the comments!

Storming Mayo

While I have plenty of landscape images to share from my recent trip to Ireland, it would feel remiss not to share an, as yet unshared image from a stormy day at Downpatrick Head, Co. Mayo, in November, given Mayo's incredible result on Sunday. It was a close result in the end, but "The Curse" is clearly over... Mayo for Sam! 💚❤️

Were you watching the match yourself? Do you believe in "The Curse"? :-D

Sunset at Mullaghmore Head

I am back home now after a wonderful couple of weeks in Ireland, at the festivals in Tubbercurry and Drumshanbo. Thank you to everyone who interacted with my images from the festivals, and hello to my new . There are quite a few of you, as I move towards 7000. Your continued support is much appreciated.

As I indicated in my first post from that trip, I did also manage to capture some new landscape images - something that is long overdue. This one is from Mullaghmore Head, in northern Sligo. It proved to be a popular location that evening, but I managed to find a few quiet spots to get some shots. I also managed to keep my feet dry, although it was a close thing.

That's my time in Ireland at an end for this trip. It was a great fortnight of music in Sligo and Leitrim, catching up with old friends and making new ones along the way. As I write this, I am in the queue for the ferry back home to Scotland. I couldn't leave, though, without a final session in Belfast with some of the best musicians. Should you be around the city for the Belfast TradFest this week, or the Fleadh next week, then you have a great time ahead. For me, though, the adventure is at an end. See you all again in November for Ennis Trad Festival!
