Before shooting «HOME», we spent a full day on set rehearsing so the actors could completely immerse themselves in the film’s world. Over an 8 hour session, we worked through the heavily dialogue-driven script.
The scene focuses on Eliana sitting at the dinner table with her family, as underlying tension and aloofness build, leaving her feeling increasingly isolated. Finding the right conversational pace was a real challenge, we wanted the dialogue to feel natural rather than scripted or mechanical. Because it was also the first time the cast had met, building an authentic connection was crucial.
Another challenge was choreography: the actors had to lock in consistent physical actions at a table packed with food and subtle props so they could repeat them accurately across takes. The full unedited scene originally ran for 16 minutes, but in post-production, we cut it down to 7 minutes. 💪🏻
P.S. In total we shot 74 takes of the scene in 12 hours.
