"Risk joy!" Beyond the beauty there's the sheer marvel of new life against the odds, and therefore, a story of hope. No writer as ever quite captured that better then the now late Louise Glück, one of the finest poets of our time, in Snowdrops.
Do you know what I was, how I lived? You know
what despair is; then
winter should have meaning for you.

I did not expect to survive,
earth suppressing me. I didn't expect
to waken again, to feel
in damp earth my body
able to respond again, remembering
after so long how to open again
in the cold light
of earliest spring--

afraid, yes, but among you again

Tomorrow and for the next four weekends I'll be at the National Trust’s Fell Foot Park, Newby Bridge, Cumbria, shooting a fun photography event for owners and families with their dogs. We’ve set up a beautifully decorated pop up portrait studio in one of the historic boathouses. If you know someone who might like to come along for a festive shoot then please do share.
