Jonah - 'A Spanish Mastin 4yrs old
I met Jonah and his owners at the Piltdown Fun Dog Show.
He has an amazing story which they have provided for me to share with you. He was adopted through www.mastinmatters.org
Not much is known about his early days or family except he does not appear to have had a puppyhood.
What we do know is that is was severely 'brutalised' by a former owner who chained and beat him - he still bears the physical scars mainly visible on his hind quarters
He came to the attention of the spanish rescue services after spending months surviving on a refuge site salvaging for food at night to survive. Once caught he was taken to a concrete 'cell' where even his freedom was removed and received only basic care in the form of food and water. Fortunately he was spotted by a 'guardian angel' working with 'Mastin Matters' who managed to secure his 'release' and placed him in a loving foster home in Grenada who commendably started his rehabilitation.
It was through the charity's website his desperate plea was brought to our attention and the process of adoption commenced
Due to the extreme abuse he suffered it was felt he wouldn't cope with regular transportation to the UK, so 'Jane' drove him over in her car.
He arrived on a dark January evening earlier this year (2022) a shell of a dog - terrified of everything and everybody!
Since then he is slowly started to heal mentally and physically with time, love and patience.
He still has no idea how to play and maybe never will, but is begining to find joy in everyday things like food, walks, and a stroke
As humans we do not deserve the lovely personality of this incredible dog after all he has been through - he is gentle, kind and a credit to his breed.
He recently attended a local dog show and came first as most handsome dog, best rescue and best reserve in show = tears of proudness all round 😪
Please consider offering a home to a rescue and give these animals a second chance remember DONT SHOP - ADOPT - the journey is so worthwhile.
