Cows grazing on the Seven Sisters
A visit to the South Downs this afternoon with the intention of shooting some large format film. I managed to get just one sheet done as it was very blowy and the tripod was rocking. Got a lovely walk with Barney though and shot a few on my phone along the way. We’ll try again tomorrow.

View from the bathroom window this morning
I almost didn’t post this shot of the nice sky. Standing in the kitchen making breakfast this morning, I had seen a tiny bit of colour about 30 mins before so it looked promising for a colourful sunrise. When it got to this level, I popped upstairs and shot this out of the bathroom window. The starlings were adding to the scene by flying around the rooftops. I must have taken about 30 shots on my iPhone and picked the most aesthetically pleasing one where the birds looked good in flight. It’s a nice photo, but ultimately I feel quite flat as it all seemed so easy. Point, shoot, posted, done. As much as I enjoyed the sky and watching this beautiful sunrise unfold, I actually prefer my the blurry shot looking through the window. I think this is why I genuinely prefer shooting with my older film cameras. I never get excited by shooting on a digital camera or a phone. They are incredibly useful as a tool for recording stuff along the way, but I need something more when I go out and the whole analogue process gives me that. I little bit more thought, a few learned skills applied and less shots taken. It doesn’t always come off but it makes me feel better in the long run.

I didn’t realise it at the time, but when I stopped Halli on the street last week, she looked kind of familiar. It was only when I got back that I found out that I had photographed her five years ago for my project. She didn’t say anything at the time about that first encounter, but I’m glad she said yes again. The full length shot was from last week, on Portra 400 film and the second shot (pink top) was the one taken in 2014 on my Fuji x100s digital camera.
