A message from our founder.

For over 20 years, I’ve run The NPS with one simple goal — to help photographers.

It’s never been about levels, experience, or status. Whether you’re picking up a camera for the very first time, building a business, or you’ve been working professionally for years, you deserve support, guidance, and a place where you feel comfortable, valued, and encouraged. That’s what I’ve always tried to create.

The NPS has never been “just another organisation” to me. It’s something I’ve built and continued to grow because I genuinely care about the people in it. I know how challenging photography can be — not just technically, but creatively and professionally as well — and having the right support around you can make all the difference.

This isn’t something I do out of obligation or for recognition. I do it because I love helping people. There’s a huge amount of personal satisfaction in seeing members improve their skills, gain confidence, push themselves creatively, or take steps towards building something of their own. Watching that progress, and knowing I’ve played even a small part in it, is what drives me to keep going.

Over the years, I’ve always tried to reinvest my time and energy back into The NPS — finding new ways to add value, introduce benefits, and create opportunities that genuinely help members move forward. That doesn’t stop. I’m constantly thinking about what more can be done, what else can be improved, and how the organisation can continue to support you better.

At its core, The IAFP / NPS is about people. It’s about creating an environment where everyone, regardless of where they are on their journey, feels supported and has the chance to grow.

If you’re already a member, thank you. Your support, your involvement, and your trust mean more than you probably realise.

And if you’re thinking about joining, just know this — you’re not joining something faceless. You’re joining something built with care, run with passion, and driven by a genuine desire to help you succeed.

And I’ll continue to do everything I can to make that worthwhile.

The National Photographic Society Becomes The International Association of Photographers

We are proud to announce that The National Photographic Society (NPS) is now rebranding as The International Association of Photographers (IAFP).

This marks an exciting new chapter in our evolution — one that reflects both our growing international presence and our ambitious vision for the future of photography.

Importantly, the legacy of The National Photographic Society remains at the heart of everything we do. The IAFP will be presented as:

The International Association of Photographers incorporating The National Photographic Society.

This ensures continuity, recognition and respect for the foundation on which we have built our reputation.

Why the Change?

Over recent years, our membership has expanded far beyond national borders. Photographers from across the world are joining our community, undertaking our qualifications, and engaging with our professional standards.

The name “National” no longer reflected who we are becoming.

The International Association of Photographers better represents:
• Our growing global membership
• Our internationally recognised standards
• Our expanding partnerships
• Our forward-thinking outlook
• Our commitment to raising standards worldwide

This rebrand is not simply a change of name — it is a declaration of our international direction.

Honouring Our Heritage

The National Photographic Society has played a vital role in building a respected, structured pathway for photographers seeking recognition and professional development.

That legacy continues.

The NPS will remain as an integral part of The IAFP, preserving its history, identity and contribution to the photographic community. By incorporating The NPS within The IAFP, we are combining heritage with growth — tradition with ambition.

What Stays the Same

While our name evolves, our core values remain unchanged.

Members can expect:
• The same respected qualifications
• The same professional recognition
• The same commitment to standards
• The same supportive community
• The same structured progression pathways

Existing memberships, accreditations and awards remain fully valid and recognised.

There is no action required from members — only the opportunity to be part of an expanding international association.

A Global Future

The move to The International Association of Photographers reflects our ambition to:
• Strengthen international recognition
• Expand access to qualifications worldwide
• Develop global partnerships
• Support photographers across borders
• Elevate professional standards internationally

We are building something bigger — a truly international photographic body rooted in credibility, structure and opportunity.

Welcome to The IAFP

This is more than a rebrand.

It is the next stage in our evolution.

The International Association of Photographers incorporating The National Photographic Society represents continuity, growth and a bold international future.

We are proud of where we have come from.
We are excited about where we are going.

Welcome to The IAFP.

Over the next few days we will be changing how you submit images to our image competition.

Our new system will make things much easier to upload new images, will check for eligibility (i.e too much AI usage) and allow you to review the current and previous months entries.

We'll let you know when it goes live.
