Meeting 22nd October: How to take better wildlife photos

This Thursday we have a change to the published programme. Rose Atkinson, A talk on Vintage lenses will be re-scheduled for later in the season.

Instead, this week we have a talk by Sandy Cox on how to take better wildlife photos. Something I personally will be interested in. Attached is one of mine that could do with improving.

Non-members are welcome to attend and can come along for up to 3 meetings before joining. We do ask that you pay the £2 entrance fee for those 3 evenings. We will be meeting at Southwick Village Hall at 7:30 (see map).

Meeting 15th October: DPI competition - 'Open'

This Thursday will be our first DPI competition of the season in our new venue. The subject is 'Open' and our judge for the evening will be Jim LeFueve from Yeovil.

Jim says: "My enjoyment of photography is broad and includes almost any subject such as family, landscape, portrait, still life, theatre, events, gardens and our heritage. The photographer’s art is fascinating; those choices made in representing the world. So, there is a lot of pleasure in viewing the work of others, be they famous names or enthusiastic club members."

Non-members are welcome to attend and can come along for up to 3 meetings before joining. We do ask that you pay the £2 entrance fee for those 3 evenings. We will be meeting at Southwick Village Hall at 7:30 (see map).

Meeting 8th October: Photo walk in Bath

This Thursday we will be having a photo walk around Bath so there will be no meeting in the hall. We will be at the mercy of the weather, although at present it is looking OK, so fingers crossed.

The photo included with this post was taken by Rob Dyer on the last Bath photo walk 2 years ago.

We will meet up outside Bath Abbey at 7:00 pm, then split up into small groups or continue individually to spend the evening taking images of the city and people at night. Bring along your cameras, tripods etc.

There will be several cars going and lifts can be sorted out on the WhatsApp chat group in the week.

Non-members are welcome to come along and join us in Bath. Please make yourselves known to us (photographers loitering outside the Abbey).

There will be a members evening later in the season to show our images.

Meeting 1st October: Members critique evening

This Thursday will be the first meeting at our new venue, Southwick Village Hall, and it will be a members critique evening.

This is a chance for members to show and receive feedback on a selection of their images. Bring your prints or images on a memory stick (max 10 each).

It’s is not about showing your best work, although I’m sure we will see some excellent images. It is about having an opportunity to learn from constructive feedback from fellow photographers, in a friendly and fun environment.

If you have any images you're not completely happy with, whether it's from a technical point of view, or how it could be better edited, other members may be able to share their knowledge/experience and give you tips on how they could be improved.

Entries are due for the first DPI Competition (Open subject).

Non-members are welcome to attend and can come along for up to 3 meetings before joining. We do ask that you pay the £2 entrance fee for those 3 evenings. From 1st October we will be meeting at Southwick Village Hall at 7:30 (see map).

Meeting 17th September: An introduction to digital photography

This Thursday we have a presentation by our Programme Secretary Kevin Crosbie entitled "An introduction to digital photography". The talk is aimed at new starters and the less experienced, as well as the old hands.

You don’t need to have an expensive mirrorless camera and a myriad of lenses, excellent images can be captured with almost anything with a camera on it – mobile phone, compact camera, rugged camera, Go-Pro, drone, old SLR film or DSLR.

Non-members are welcome to attend and can come along for up to 3 meetings before joining. We do ask that you pay the £2 entrance fee for those 3 evenings. We meet at St Thomas church hall, Trowbridge at 7:30pm.

As always we welcome new members. Please come along for up to 3 meetings before making a decision on membership. We ask that you pay the £2 entry fee as all members do. We meet at St Thomas Church hall, Trowbridge at 7:30pm.

Richard B is back with another cracking entry in tour Wildlife and nature competition.

This image, A Tiny Explorer is such a wonderfully charming moment, and earned Richard a fantastic 14 points in our Wildlife and Nature competition.

Blending vibrant colour with beautifully judged focus, the tiny subject nestled among the sunflower’s petals gives the photograph a warm, playful character that stands out instantly.

Decomposition and Decay — Jane H

A beautifully observed study in texture, where age and weathering create patterns only nature can carve. This cracking image earned Jane a strong 14 points in our Wildlife and Nature competition; highlighting her instinct for detail and the quieter stories found in nature.

This powerful, dramatic moment was captured by Rob D and scored him 15 points in our last Wildlife and Nature competition. Splash is such a striking seascape, capturing the raw force of water meeting rock with real precision.

The crisp detail, the energy in the spray, and the interplay of light across the scene gives the image a bold, cinematic presence.
