What draws you to a photograph or to an art piece?
Is it simply the image or artwork itself, or does knowing something about the artist and the story behind it deepen your connection?
When visiting a gallery, one’s encountering the finished piece without knowing anything about the months and years of thought, research, experimentation, observation or life experience that brought it into being. Sometimes that doesn’t matter at all but@more often than not, it changes everything.
Over the this last week at The Projection Room in , I’ve had some wonderful conversations with visitors. People have shared memories, family stories, personal experiences and their own interpretations of the work. Art doesn’t stop when it’s hung on a wall. It continues through the conversations it sparks and the connections it creates.
If you’ve been meaning to visit, there are now just 2½ days left.
I’m exhibiting my photographic work alongside my friend and talented illustrative artist Frances Mason as part of English Riviera Open Studios. Together we’re sharing The Projection Room, Venue 8, with work that comes from very different starting points but is united by a love of storytelling, observation and making.
We’d love to welcome you —
