Bamburgh Castle April earlier this year. 05.45, an empty beach and no other photographers! Don’t think I’ve been here before and had the place completely to myself - weird!

Happy birthday to our little Rosie. Eight years old today and still completely and totally crackers. Seem to remember eight years ago Mand wanted a dog and I voted for a Harley Davidson - something went badly wrong because we ended up with the dog!

Still have to process the images but this is the set up Sunday morning to shoot the Duke of Portland boathouse on Ullswater. Water levels have dropped quite a lot which meant I could wade out in front of the boathouse. With luck it should make for a slightly different angle.

Ullswater and Glenridding from Place Fell terrace. Middle of the day and straight into the sun. No fancy cameras, filters or tripods. Just a very quick iPhone panorama whilst out for a Boxing Day walk with the Boss and our Rosie. (You might have to click on the image to see the full panorama)

‘High Water Gale Bay, Ullswater’. Taken Tuesday 16 December after what feels like weeks of rain. I’ve had my eye on this tree for quite some time. Whilst not quite the picture I’d envisaged I think the high waters and fog have made for quite a nice monochrome image. Can’t imagine it’s the last time I’ll photograph it. Fuji GFX100RF, Kase 0.6 Medium ND Grad, tripod and slightly soggy wellies. Exposure was 1 Sec at F/8, ISO 80. More at www.petetasker.co.uk

Just because the gallery is closed and I’ve hardly done any photography since retiring doesn’t mean you can’t have a new camera (he told the Mrs). Fuji GFX100RF - medium format with a fixed 35mm lens (28mm full frame equivalent) and super compact. It wouldn’t suit everyone and I’m pretty sure most photographers would find it just too limiting. To me however it feels refreshing and uncomplicated (other than being medium format with 100 megapixels, about ten thousand set up menus and not exactly cheap as chips). It does however remind me of a time when many of the medium format cameras I used only had a single fixed lens. It’s a style of photography I’ve tried to replicate a few times over the years by going out or away with just a camera body and one single fixed focal length lens. The verdict so far - love it. One camera and a filter pouch all stuffed in an unbelievably small light weight camera bag. Infact the Kase filter pouch is bigger than the camera. Pictures attached of its first shoot at Ullswater today - we’ve had a bit of rain!
