Made some more boxing photographs at Alloa Town Hall for SMAC Gym. Same as last time though; Jack, the final act, gave little time to capture evidence of his fight 🥊🏅Photographing live events is a real buzz, I love being around humans that put so much energy into their craft 🤩 If you want, you can see them on my site https://www.fionareadphotography.com/smac-fight-night-20-02-26

I made the decision recently that I can't post photographs on Meta products anymore. That's really weird for me because I used to really appreciate their platforms. I don't think they value us, to the point that I believe they are taking advantage of us, and I don't agree with what they stand for. However, I've made the exception for this series of photographs (yes, actual photographs) because if I'm forced to teach AI anything, I'd rather it be that further education needs TLC after years of neglect. Save Alloa Campus Forth Valley College.

If you could click your fingers and get to the top of the hills, would you do it? So that's obviously not possible, but what if there was some sort of service (helicopter?) that would pick you up at the bottom and drop you off at the top? You'd get to enjoy the views without any of that hassle getting there?

One of the most treasured types of portrait photography has got to be the school portrait. They have changed in style over the years and give us something to cringe over when we’re bigger, but I think most people appreciate having them? They are a document firstly of how we’ve aged since we began school/nursery, but they can trigger memories and also document the change in styles, for those who are interested in that. Most schools have a photographer set up in the assembly hall which is great because it means that every parent has the opportunity to buy their child’s portrait but in the last decade more and more photographers have begun offering individual mini sessions so parents can be there when they’re made and ensure their kid doesn’t have yogurt down their jumper. These mini sessions are also a chance to select a photographer who’s style you like, many including props in the frame that give some context. I lean towards a prop-less set up, and thankfully so does my sister, so I’ve been making my niece and nephews school portraits since they were wee. This is Emma’s last school portrait, and the next educational portrait I make of her will be her university graduation 👩‍🎓

Today was my mum and dads last day of work. Tomorrow, they retire. I am so proud of them, and so proud to be raised by them. I’ve seen these incredibly wonderful, but also very humble humans work through everything, because they know nothing other than working for their family, contributing to this wee thing we call society, and trying to love life along the bumpy way.

Not only have they worked since they were teenagers, 32 years of that - the final 32 working years, have been dedicated to their own business that they began when their 2 girls were just wee. So many small businesses unfortunately fail, but they made it through decades, which included a worldwide pandemic. The reviews along the way for my mum and dad were stellar (and I’ve screenshotted a few of them!) and their business is missed already. It makes my heart swell when I hear of the comments and offers they’ve had in the last few weeks of winding down. I admire them stupid amounts.

This portrait was made around 8 years ago, but I’ve known these incredible women for over 30 years. The project I photographed them for here was based on connection, which is so strong between them.
