The roadsides were awash with bright yellow Gorse filling the air with the smell of coconut, that coupled with the bright blue sky, white sandy beaches and turquoise sea, we could have been in the Caribbean.

When you plan to take wildlife photos you'll always come across the fact that you can't actually plan the outcome. Due to the bad weather conditions the last weeks the puffins decided to delay their arrival to the Caithness coast. So all you get after laying 2 feet away from the edge of a cliff for one hour is the blurry two shots of a puffin

A misty glimpse at the Old Man of Hoy

Rising out of the Atlantic Ocean to a height of 450 feet (137m), The Old Man of Hoy is the UK’s tallest sea stack. Separated from land by the erosive powers of sea and wind the stack was originally an arch with two “legs”, hence its name, however a severe storm literally washed away one of the legs leaving the single pillar. There is already a large crack running down from the top of the stack and many Geologists believe that one day the Old Man will collapse into the sea.

Tonight's full moon over Caithness

The moon does not fight. It attacks no one. It does not worry. It does not try to crush others. It keeps to its course, but by its very nature, it gently influences. What other body could pull an entire ocean from shore to shore? The moon is faithful to its nature and its power is never diminished.

A lovely working harbour built in the 1820’s by James Bremner of Keiss for James Traill of Rattar after he purchased Castlehill House and established the flagstone industry at Castlehill Quarry.
The Harbour was built to ship the flagstone produced by the quarry. The ships used to take the flagstone would return with loads of coal, oil cake and other feed stuff.
The Harbour is now administered by a trust. It is one of the many small stone harbours, Castlehill harbour, Dunnet Bay

Corn Mill, Castletown, early to mid 19th century. A massive three-storey building with a central double kiln. The internal overshot wheel now, like the other machinery, removed, was about 6ft (1.83m) wide by 16ft (4.88m) diamete

The only other double mill known is the Ayre Mill in Kirkwall, Orkney, where the mills are in the middle, with flanking kilns. There, as here, all the machinery has been removed.
