I've been sighting this stranded boat at Skippool for some months now watching the light and shadows falling on it in the early morning around sunrise and like today, around 4pm when the shadows are longer and the sunlight is fleeting through the trees above the footpath from where I took the picture. Thought it would suit the monochrome touch. 3-shot AEB @ f3.5 on a 70-200 f2.8 lens and ISO50. HDR blended in LrC and then the mono treatment via DXO Nik Silver Efx and some adjustments. Not sure I like it yet but it's growing on me. πŸ€”πŸ€”

This mornings walk down Skippool at sunrise didn't quite go according to plan. Forecast was for broken mid to high level cloud, almost no wind and some light mist/fog so I was set on getting great colour and the sun appearing from behind the Bowland Fells in the distance. What I got was low dense cloud cutting all the light and colour off and no mist/fog. Nearly 30mins after official sunrise of around 6am, these were the only images worthy of doing anything with.

More sunset images from last night (21st) at Rossall Beach. 3-shot AEB's HDR blended in LrC and tweaked very little

An interesting but slow start to the day for sunrise this morning at Skippool Creek. From the first image to last image there is just 14mins with the colours appearing, developing between the clouds and fading away just after the last image. 3-shot AEB's @ f8 or f11, ISO50, HDR merged in LrC and tweaked. Canon R5 mk2 with RF 14-35mm f4L IS lens

On Saturday 15th I took a quick trip to nearby Skippool Creek as there was a very big high tide, a spring tide as they're known. I was after water under the old boats that you normally don't get to see except now and again during the few spring tides that happen along here. Anyway, I noticed this bloke down next to the waters edge and thought "What has he seen that I haven't" over the years so I approached him when he walked back up to the footpath only to discover it was the well known blind photographer Gary Williamson aka Swirly_Magnolia, an anagram of his name. Notice I mentioned "What has he seen that I haven't." Gary is registered blind and can see very little so for him to wander down to the waters edge over the marshy ground and trying to avoid the muddy gulleys was some feat. He puts a 20x magnifying eye monocle or loupe to his eye whilst viewing the intending area through his mobile phone on 5x zoom to try to understand what's in front of him.

Going near to the waters edge isn't something I tend to do but I'll give his dues, he found a small upside down tender dinghy and took some great shots. Anyway, nearly 2 hours later and a load of chatting between ourselves walking back and forth looking at other things, I ended up giving him a lift to Poulton Le Fylde train station but as luck would have it, there are many pubs in Poulton and we caught a couple of scoops at the Old Town Hall before going our own way. Awesome bloke who travels all over the place and takes some phenomenal monochrome images. Check him out on Instagram >>
