This is one of my favourite images from Ashton Promotions Unholy with Oliver Ashton.

As a photographer the ingredients I look for in a boxing image are:

1. Seeing the faces of both boxers.
2. The boxers making a pleasing shape (composition)
3. No referee, or a referee that doesn't distract from the image.
4. No distracting features in the background.
5. A background that adds to the image but doesn't dominate it.

Boom, I think this image ticks all the boxes. Ashton Promotions with Oliver Ashton at Unholy The Palais Nottingham.

I first photographed boxing at the Palais Nottingham when it was the Pryzm nightclub. For me this venue has always been known as the bearpit. Being ringside, surrounded by the balcony, feels like being in a noisy and sometimes hostile enclosure. You can sometimes see the fear on the boxers faces as they step into the ring. Last weekends Unholy Ashton Promotions event with Oliver Ashton was one of those chaotic and exciting nights in the Bearpit.
