Last night’s unexpected visitor ✨
I only had seconds to grab my camera before this hummingbird hawk-moth disappeared back into the dark. The photos aren’t perfect, but honestly, I’m just happy I got to witness one at all. Nature always seems to appear when you least expect it!
FACTS:
The hummingbird hawk-moth can hover in mid-air just like a hummingbird while feeding on flowers.
Despite looking tropical, they’re commonly found across the UK and Europe during warmer months.
They beat their wings incredibly fast — around 70–80 times per second.
Their long tongue can reach deep into flowers to drink nectar while they stay airborne.
They are daytime moths, so people often mistake them for tiny birds.
