The Cigar Galaxy, also known Messier Object 82 & NGC 3034. It is a starburst galaxy that is around 12 million light years away from us. It was discovered with it's Neighbour M81 by Johann Elert Bode in 1774. A Supernova was discovered in the galaxy by amateur astronomers in 2014 SN 2014J, a type Ia supernova. The supernova was discovered by astronomer Steve Fossey, of University College London and four of his undergraduate students: Ben Cooke, Guy Pollack, Matthew Wilde and Thomas Wright. The closest Supernova discovered for 42 years

The "Leo Triplet Galaxies"

3 beautiful interacting spiral galaxies, 35 million light years away playing a gravitational tug of war. The one on the left is seen edge on and is nicknamed the "hamburger galaxy". The faint galaxy on the top right is NGC 3593, which is suspected to have a supermassive blackhole at the centre!!

The Sombrero galaxy M104 . Quite a hard one to capture, being 29 million light years away from us, it is only less than 50,000 light years wide, massive really but only 30% the size of our own galaxy. An edge on galaxy allows us to observe some of the dust lanes. The obvious bulge near the centre suggests it has merged with another galaxy in the past

M42 - The stunning Orion Nebula, a winter constellation. In the UK the Orion the hunter is rising early in the pre dawn hours. Draw your eyes to the fuzzy patch in orion's belt. One of the most gorgeous parts of the sky to image and a massive star forming region of gas est 4200 light-years away
