On Wednesday 19th August, we were joined by the Mayor of Dudley, Cllr Pete Lowe.

Pete has been a passionate supporter of the Arts, and has made it a pledge to help and support all creatives in the borough as much as he can whilst he is in office.

Anyway, Pete says it much better, so here he is…

Why on earth would our government publish a pack of lies to discourage photographers from the streets 🧐.

Once again we see yet another world government putting out false information, but working hard to legitimise it through 'guilt layering'

This time it is the UK Government trying to brush their own laws under the carpet.

This leaflet has been issued by the UK Home Office. The headline message, the message they want people to take on board, is clear 'Do not photograph or film people in public'

This is clearly false information, there is no law against photography in a public place within the UK.

However, what is particularly annoying is the underhand way the leaflet attempts to legitimise their false message by going on to add information about separate activities that clearly are illegal.

This is a psychological technique called guilt layering - they know that many readers will now associate the (perfectly legal) activity mentioned in the headline with the illegal activity discussed further down - the leaflet is designed to promote a knee jerk reaction against legal activity by suggesting that it is closely linked to illegal practices.

Dear UK Government - shame on you 😕

On Wednesday 19th August we return to Stourbridge Social for our monthly, Spoken Word Open Mic Night.

Join us for an evening of some wonderful stories, prose and poetry from some of the mostly wonderfully talented local creatives.

They will make you laugh, maybe cry, think about stuff you hadn't, and you may see a different take on life, both theirs and your own.

There is no entry fee, just come on down, grab a drink, grab a seat, sit back and enjoy.

Action! are going filming.

Our Stourbridge based community theatre group is taking the next step, creating original short films so our actors, writers, and creatives can gain real film experience and build showreels.

Another great night of poetry and prose at The People's Platform at Stourbridge Social amongst friends old and new.

A year ago I hadn't even considered writing much poetry let alone perform it in public, so events like this are so important to support and help people realise their creativity. Come along and see for yourself!
