Why the name Fable & Kin?

After 15 years as 'Jen Hart - Photographer', a name known in Teesside, I've come back with a completely new brand.

Why on Earth would I do that after being so long established?!

The simple answer is that I didn't want my business to be about me, I want it to be about you. Your story and your family.

That's what Fable and Kin means...

Fable = a meaningful story
Kin = your closest family

There's no better name for what I do. I'm your photographer, there to capture the story of the people you love most in the beautiful photographs you deserve.

For those of you who know me, it's still the same Jen Hart behind the camera.

For those of you who don't know me, "Hi", I'm Jen and I'm a baby, child and family photographer who creates natural, relaxed photographs for growing families across Teesside.

FAQ: What happens if my baby doesn’t settle during a newborn session?

I’m not going to tell you every newborn session is full of a perfectly sleepy baby who doesn’t stir for 90 minutes… because that simply wouldn’t be realistic 😊

Babies are unpredictable, which is exactly why my sessions are completely relaxed and baby-led.

I only book one newborn session per day, so there’s always plenty of time if your baby needs extra cuddles, feeding breaks or settling. Nothing is ever rushed.

With over 15 years of experience photographing newborns and young children, I’ve found that a calm, gentle approach often works wonders.

If your baby is unsettled when I arrive, we can simply start with family photographs first so they can stay close and feel safe and comforted.

And although those sleepy newborn photographs are lovely, awake photographs can be just as special too. Tiny stretches, curious expressions and bright eyes all help tell the story of those early days

Hello 👋, I'm Jen...

introducing myself for anyone who's just found Fable & Kin. Welcome, I'm glad you're here!

This page may be new but I'm not new to photography, in fact, it's been over 17 years since I started my baby and family photography business.

A lot has happened in that time...

I started out in 2009 straight after graduating from my photography degree. I was so brave in my 20s!

My first Studio was a double fronted Victorian Terrace on Baker Street in Middlesbrough, it was quirky, full of character and freezing cold in the winter 😆.

I learnt so much, met some amazing people and built my little business year on year.

I photographed weddings, babies, families and all sorts of interesting projects that came my way....I remember driving over to Castle Howard at 5am for a fashion shoot, going behind the scenes at Sage Gateshead and documenting the Pickering 1940s weekend; every day was different.

Over the years I began to specialise as I loved working with growing families.

I moved to new Studios and in 2012 won North East Portrait Photographer of the Year.

In 2018 I became a Mum and that gave me a new perspective on my baby and family photography as I understood my clients even more.

After my 15 year anniversary in business I began to look to the future and needed a fresh challenge.

In 2024 I made the huge decision to close my business and retrain as an Early Years Teacher. It was now or never...I knew I would always wonder "what if?".

I'm now qualified but I've missed my families and the creative outlet photography gave me.

So...now I'm back with a fresh brand and focused on what I love most: working with families and capturing happy times.

I've photographed thousands of babies and families so I have lots of experience to share!

One thing I won't bring to your newborn session...

I provide everything for your newborn session including a soft beanbag, freshly laundered blankets and all the camera and lighting equipment I need BUT

I don't bring any props with me.

There's a really good reason for this...

In years to come when you look back on your newborn photographs you want them to bring back all the memories of that precious, fleeting time. Exactly as it was, real and authentic.

You'll want to remember your home as it was, your baby in their own clothes with their own comforter that was gifted by family.

So although I bring everything we need to capture beautiful, relaxed photographs in the comfort of your home...I won't bring any props, sets or costumes.

Your baby is perfect just as they are and the personal touches I add will be your own.
