General information

Damien Hannah Photography first came into existence in April 2010 when proprietor, and then enthusiast photographer, Damien Hannah decided to turn his longstanding hobby into his career by agreeing to undertake his very first photoshoot the following month, however the business did not officially launch until September 2010. The reason for the delay between the original launch and subsequent official launch is straightforwards to explain. Damien’s father, who had been instrumental in encouraging his son to pursue something that he had been given the opportunity to study at college, passed away the day before Damien’s original commission was due to take place. Acting professionally Damien fulfilled his commission photographing Louisianan “Blues Hall of Fame” inductee Larry Garner and British “Blues Hall of Fame” inductee Norman Beaker at their gig at The Moor Top public house in Heaton Moor. For obvious reasons given the circumstances the subsequent photographs were not to the standard that Damien knew he could produce and knowing the situation that Damien was in he was given the opportunity to photograph the pair later on that year. This is the only time that the pair have played twice in a twelve month period in Stockport and this time Damien’s photographs were to the standards that he knew he could produce and as a result were published in a local magazine and also online. One of the first things that Damien decided during the development process of his business was that it would ‘buck the trend’ of providing photographs as digital files and would instead concentrate on providing all of its private clients with physical prints. This is the single longest standing element of the businesses founding philosophy that remains as strong today as it was when it was first conceived and is quickly and easily summed up in the businesses #PrintsNotFiles hashtag that is also used in the businesses web address and social media presence. In 2013 Damien signed a rolling lease on a former builders lockup that he could convert into a photography studio that was unlike any other that he had seen during his research process whilst planning the acquisition of a studio. Damien’s design brief was simple — make the studio luxurious and welcoming rather than clinical and sterile, as so many studios are. He achieved this and the resultant studio was well received by clients who all commented on just how informal and welcoming it was, even to the point where parents with autistic children commented on how easily their children had settled into the studio. This was something that Damien was keen to ensure as his partner’s eldest child is on the autistic spectrum and by drawing on his own experience he was aware that the studio needed to have a familiar and homely feel to it in order to try and limit the impact that the new environment could potentially have on autistic children. The honour of becoming the first people to ever be photographed within Damien’s studio, or at the very least the building site that was to become the studio, was given to Louisianan “Blues Hall of Fame” inductee Larry Garner and British “Blues Hall of Fame” inductee Norman Beaker, who were also the very first people that Damien photographed when he began the process of turning his hobby into his career. Signed limited edition prints were created from that photoshoot, with the in-house workflow used by the business able to produce the prints from the sitting ready for signing within just a few hours. At Larry and Norman’s gig at the Moor Top pub a few weeks later one of the signed prints was raffled, earning in excess of £500 for The Christies charity. In early 2016 Damien announced that because of his personal circumstances he would be permanently closing his studio and taking time off from photography to concentrate on his families greetings card business. Over the course of the following few months Damien sold a lot of his photography equipment to cover the overheads of the family business and invest in new technologies. Despite this and a lot of hard work on his part Damien concluded that the family greetings card business was no longer financially viable towards the end of 2016 and began the process of closing the business in early 2017 to once again concentrate solely on his photography. At present Damien is not undertaking any commissions whilst he rebuilds his business, taking it back to something that more closely resembles the one that he envisaged when he first conceived it rather than the one that it grew to become. Whilst doing this Damien continues to take photographs that he is adding to his portfolio, some of which will be me made available for purchase together with selected older images as original art pieces when his business officially re-launches in June 2017. Damien is a professional member of the Guild of Photographers and also The Royal Photographic Society and has previously been a registered Canon professional photographer as well as being a member of The Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers, The Society of International Fashion & Glamour Photographers and the British Press Photographers Association. As part of the photography that he is currently undertaking Damien is working towards a panel for submission to join the prestigious British Institute of Professional Photographers who have invited him to become a qualified member upon submission of a successful panel. The Philosophy of Damien Hannah Photography. Damien Hannah Photography works to a philosophy that forms the very foundation upon which the business was built. This philosophy sets out not only how we deal with our customers but also what they can expect from us and it is built on four main principles: To always have a straightforwards approach to client engagement, giving information honestly and accurately without hiding behind unnecessary “lingo” or “jargon”. To always have a clear and easy to understand pricing structure that is free of gimmicks and false special offers, with no pressure sales techniques of any form ever used. To always work in-house for our entire workflow where possible, speeding up our manufacturing times whilst also reducing our overheads so that we can pass those savings on to our clients. To always provide out clients with a physical print of their chosen photographs as standard instead of digital files, but to also give them the opportunity to have both should they choose to.
